My January finish

Hello all
My coin quilt made from Wimsy

I am proud to say that I have finished my coin quilt. I made the top and back in a day and then it has taken me months to finish it. No excuse as I had all the stuff just lazy and not enough hours in the day... So that's one off my list. I still have to take a pic but I just wanted to let you all know
borders from my stash that matched perfectly

peiced baack from left overs
Cheers Geniene

The remnants of the seminole strips

With the remaining pieces of the seminole strips which I had trimmed off when making the bag, plus some fabric pieces and offcut triangles from one of the strips I have made 3 more items.

Of course I needed a pincushion.  I also made the needle case and have made another folder cover using the directions from Fee's Christmas Folder.  The folder will be useful for keeping the pattern and notes in when I do a class.  All these will live in my new bag ready for going to classes.

Here I Am!

I don't have any of my UFO's on my list finished yet but I have been working on other things!  I have put together 2 quilts for a dear friend and her sister...the sister has terminal brain cancer so some friends and I have made blocks and I have put them together and will be purchasing backing today so I can get them out the door.

I also am hosting a doll swap that is due by Tuesday so I made my doll yesterday...I made yarn hair and hate it so will also be picking up some real doll hair today too...she sure doesn't need to go bald! ha!

I have also added a border to a Radical Rooster wallhanging that I am working on! (It is really a UFO but wasn't put on my list)

So see...I have been working.... :)

Seminole tote finished.

Last year at our local store Sew This and That we had a regular class (called Free Block Frenzy) where we had a demonstration then made seminole strips.  At the end of the year we had a number of them in different lengths and widths, to be made into a quilt or other item.  I decided to make a large tote.  I had seen this pattern in a magazine:

It is designed by Leanne Valiukas from Patchwork and Stitching Vol 8 No 11. (Photo from the magazine)

I did lots of calculating, measuring, alterating, joining, sewing, trimming, to make the strips into the required sizes.  I then added lots of pockets (some were in the pattern, some I added myself to use up more of the blocks I had made).
And here is my finished bag:

This will be a very handy bag to take to classes as it is a good size for fitting in all the bits and pieces needed.

And sew I've finished one........

Finally, with the month nearly over I have my first Sew It's Finished finish.   I started it in 2008, and only had to sew on the dragonfly button, sew the final seam and stuff it.  I know - what is wrong with me - it took me all of about 20 minutes this morning.  So now, finally I can add one to the tally!

This is In My Garden Needleroll by Shepherds Bush. Isn't the little dragonfly a sweetie?  The verse says, "In my garden, gently grow, buzzing blossoms, row by row."

There's been some beautiful finishes here already - keep up the good work girls....... happy stitching ...........

EDITED TO ADD:  I have changed the font in this post as it seemed to come out very small and was unreadable to some.  Apologies, not sure what happened, but hopefully this is now fixed!  Thanks

It's not sewing but it's a Finish!

Here is my first finish. I worked on it today and got it done. It's an oil painting based on a Dorothy Dent pattern called "Mabry Mill". It turned out so good that it will be hanging in my livingroom.

Here it is:

Don't think I did to bad.

Thanks for looking,

Let me introduce myself.

Hello Everyone, I'm Fiona @ Dragonfly-Crafts and I start things and don't finish them.

I have only been sewing again for about 4 years and thought I'd never have quilts tops sitting in a cupboard. I was doing so well to start with, as finances made me look for other ways/options to complete quilts such as back with polar fleece or use old blankets, mattress protectors etc as wadding.
1) Leanne's House - Ruth's Quilt (June 2006)

2) Depression Quilt - (April 2008)

3) Spring Fling - (May 2008)
4) Nundle Flannel Quilt - No Photo (Aug 2008)

5) Paper bag Quilt (Dec 2008)

6) Love Quilt - (Sept 2008)
7) Amy Butler Tablecloth - (Jan 2009)
8) A Gardener's Journal - (Started March 2010)

OMG! It all adds up doesn't it. This is only the quilt tops. I have searched for anything else YET.

Susans Sewing Space - 2 Finishes

Another two to get off the list!

Christmas Sampler - not finished in time for 2010 Christmas but at least its ready for this year.  A Nancy Halverson design - in the book "Tidings" .  I fell in love with this at the Brisbane Craft show in October last year.

Leanne Beasley's Stitchers Keeper - I just love this embroidery - it was a "Must have" as soon as I saw it.
The pattern included an iron on transfer - just love those things - so much better than tracing - and you can use a wider variety of fabrics.  So I had to test the iron on before I did the main pattern - and made a little needle case out of the pratice bit.  (That's it at the top saying "Stitchers Keeper").  I feel I also need a scissors holder with a single flower - maybe later!

One more is finished - but it will have to wait for another day.

(That's 5 finishes or me)

Take Care
Susan

Back from holidays

Wow, I just got back from holidays today ... you guys have been busy !!
I could only take hand-sewing with me, so didn't get any big jobs finished, but made lots of progress on some.
Woo hoo, we're already up to 38 finished !!

My First UFO off the list!

Phew....this was a marathon of a quilt.

A friend asked me to make a quilt for her sister who was due with a girl in January....the first time someone would be paying me for a quilt! Of course I left it to the last minute and I made this whole quilt from start to finish in 2 days!

All washed and crinkly it measures 40x52in

It was certainly hard to give this one away!

My friend loved it! Which I was just so relieved about.

Bliss is an absolutely gorgeous fabric line...I might have to make a full size of this quilt for my bed!

Happy Sewing :)

Erin :)

Number two !

I am pleased to say I am slowly getting these done.

Blocks I collected in 2009.

Two down, ten to go !!!

Saturday, January 22, 2011

I must confess...

My first finish wasn't on my list. But last week I changed priorities and started to make a new beginnings sewing kit so I can help someone in Australia.
In my opion it's a wonderful idea from the gum tree designers!

A few years ago my things were stolen on the last day of the holiday. It's always awfull when something like that happens but the worst thing to me was the fact that my bag contained a patchwork top and my sewing things. I could handle the laptop, the holidaypictures that were lost, favorite clothes but my patchworkthings... that was the most difficult.
I guess this is why I had so much joy and pleasure in designing and making this sewing kit, the feeling that you can make someone happy.

I wanted to make something special and something that most people would like.

I proudly present : Felix the sewing caddy (or catty?)

And after sending this one to Jenny I will behave better and go on with my UFO's.

Hi ladies - My UFO List!!

Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your group!  I have had a lot going on for the past 2 - 3 years and have not been able to complete things like I should have but things are on the mend and I am ready to roll!  This is the kind of place that really motivates one to really kick it in high gear and get er' done!

My UFO's are all in one stage of completion or another... I have blocks that need to be sashed together and the top quilted, I have round robins that need to be quilted, I have quilt tops needing to be quilted, and alas... I have things cut out ready to sew them up that need to be finished...

And finally...There are my daughters t-shirt blocks waiting for me to put them together and I NEED this for November as her 30th birthday gift!!  I have had this started for 3 years..got them cut out and pressed lightweight fusible interfacing to the backs and that is how they lay today!!! It IS time to get it finished and surprise her with it for her 30th!

So I do hope you will all cheer me on and I will cheer you on right back!!

My list for 2011!!:

Pigs In Boxers RR - needs quilted and bound

Burgundy and Green Churn Dash - needs quilted and bound

Block In A Block Swap Blocks - needs sashed, quilted and bound

Second finish

I think I better stop cleaning; you think?? lol
These pieces were all cut out when I found them
yesterday in my cupboard of the sewing room....so;
I just had to sit down at the serger and finish this table runner. It is a stained glass runner; Christmas...the pic is a bit dark here..

Thursday, January 20, 2011

I have finished something!!!!!

Good morning ladies.  I have finally finished a sewing piece...this has been waiting to be quilted for ages!
It wasn't even on my list; forgot about it..a Christmas table runner was in a corner of my sewing room; hiding.lol......setting up a quilt for a lady today also. It wasn't on my list either; she just brought it to me yesterday.....perfect timing,eh!!

Here is the runner........I quilted it on the machine...
keeps me practicing some stippling....which I am not
great at either, but I find it fun for a change.....

I'm getting there in really small steps.

Hi,

I hope everyone is making bigger progress than I am, it seems that I work on stuff but nothing get's finished.

There has been some small steps though.

This is the piecing I am working for a 9 patch that my grandmother started (you can see the rest of the story on this block on my blog).
I need to work on the pieced sashing and then I can sew the whole top together.

I've also been working on Kaaren at The Painted Quilt's Raggedy Ann & Andy redwork stitched pieces. She has been doing these as a BOM and I'm nearly caught up (as you will see below). I'm doing these a bit different than she is, mine will be a wall hanging.

This all the blocks, so far, layed out on my bed.

These are stitched pieces from block one.

Block two.

Block three.

Block four.

Block five.

Block six.

The last bit of stitching to do. She will have another block out at the end of the week.

This is the fabric I will use on the wall hanging. It will go really good with the blocks because...

I plan on doing the last pieces with this.

Well, nothing finished but there is progress.

If you have nothing better to do or just want to look for typos in a blog, take a peek at mine, trust me there will be alot of typos because I don't seem to be coordinated enough to type or spell well. Plus, I'm one of the weirdest people you will ever "meet".

Thanks for reading along,
Wanda
