Finish # 4 - April

Just made it this month. Did it fly for anyone else. Last I remember it was the 18th. Ahhhhh
I had a couple of blocks I was going to turn into pillows, I did, I hated changed my mind and made these cute little purses.
I cannot take credit for this idea, I saw it in blog land. My apologies to the person that first made this, I can't remember where I saw them.

April's Finish.

What a month it has been. I have completed a lot of sewing but only one thing qualifies for Sew it's Finished. I made these blocks for another purpose that never came to fruition about 3 years ago. My niece teaches children with special needs and was chasing after something a little different to hang in her classroom. I thought she might like the blocks and so a mini quilt was formed. It is an eclectic set of blocks but she loves them. So here is my April finish.

Just in time for April..

A quick post to share a finish for the month..I have been busy making new things...and then as the end of the month was looming I had to look for something to finish off for the month.. I found this bag..with  pins marking where some hand stitching needed to be done, and now here it is all done.
Oh dear it had been waiting for about 3 years or so for the finishing touches...sadly, some times, out of sight means out of mind!!

Squeaking In At The End......Again!!

Barely making the deadline once again!! My goal for May is to finish up something early....let's see how I do!

The sweet birdie hanging was a gift from a friend over a year ago. She made the top, I just needed to get it quilted and put the binding on. The table runner was started in a class a couple years ago. Now I think it will be a Mothers Day present for my mother in law. Thanks to all of you for keeping me motivated and digging in to the UFO pile and a huge thanks to Wendy and Dawn for organizing this wonderful group. Happy week everyone.

Just making it into April

There seemed to be a shortage of time this month but I did manage to squeeze a finish in. It's another bag again - it seems that I start making bags but don't finish them. It was a hard one to photograph too - it is made with two triangle shapes which are fitted together. Then when they are sewn two pockets are formed inside as well.  I had the shapes done last year but somehow had not put them together. But now it is finished and I have a new bag. Now to start thinking about what I can finish for May.
The pattern is from a local Quilt shop - The Quilter's Corner and is called Market Bag.

April finish

This month I pulled out some orphan stained glass blocks I made I cant remember when.  But after  talking to my daughter about them we think it must be more than 8 years, as she was still living at home and she had said she would like them when they were finished.  So better late than never, and she would still like them.  I decided the best thing was to make cushions, and she wants to put them on her bed.

I remember that I was trying different methods of doing the applique on these ones.  One was done with no vliesofix, one with vliesofix, and the third one I dont remember what I did differently.
Now to choose the next UFO to work on.

Daisy - do

My finish for April.  Last day of the month again but this was actually finished yesterday.  Would have posted it then but computer is having its own issues and making me very frustrated.
Any way with out further ado this is Daisy - do from Jenny of Elefantz.  A 2010 bom that I started and as per usual got distracted and didnt finish.
Love how it turned out.  More pics on my blog later today.

Just in time…

To get my finish in for this month…

When I posted my UFO List for 2012 there was this Mystery Project in one of my boxes. I was not sure what it was. I took it along to Patch . Lucky for me one of the ladies remembered the workshop we did, about 8yrs ago, and still had a pattern. Thanks Teena…..
Mystery Project Done!!!

Was pleased to have finished it this month and have sent the Table Runner to a friend for her special birthday.

My new zig-zag cushion

Well, it is not even the last day of the month (here at least) and I have finished one UFO! It was even finished last night. I have made a new cushion for my sofa.

I started with this panel that I had pieced in August 2009 for a challenge on the BQL group, the aim was to work with half-square triangles only.
When I digged out this little panel, I wasn't sure how to quilt it so I tried to find some inspiration from a great book I refer to regularly Quilting Makes the Quilt by Lee Cleland. I loved the idea of a decorative stitch off-set from the seam.
I love the effect of the "zip" stitch I have used. I don't tend to use decorative stitch on my quilts, but cushions are a great base for experimenting!
Well one less UFO in my sewing room and one more cushion on my sofa.

Christmas Truffles

Since I was having a break from work over Easter and then 5 days from Anzac Day until today - I decided to tackle one of the "Big Projects" for April.  I guess I started this 4 or 5 years ago and I still had a few blocks to embroider as well as putting it all together.
The pattern is "Christmas Truffles" from Hugs & Kisses. It was a bit of a rush to finish it - and I had to photograph it today when it is quite dark and overcast - but its done and I'm posting before the end of the month so I get my little reward.  I have to say I think this is such a marvellous incentive - without the "push" from this blog - it would still be "in the box".

Leo's BIG boy bed quilt

My darling grand son Leo turns 2 on May 6th, and he gets to go into a BIG boy bed.  So Nana Sue had to make him a new quilt for that.  Of course I made it to fit nicely on a single bed.

Its a simple square in a square pattern with the block centres being animals from a panel that I had in my stash for many years.  The bulk of the quilt is made using 10 little things range, perfect for little boys.

I quilted it in the ditch around each block and stipple on the borders.  The background is a soft blue with all over stars.

Scrappy April Finished...

-and my march block too.
I´m glad that I eventual finished this scrappy mystrey quilt.
I only used scraps for this quilt 2168 pieces!!!
55x75" freemotion quilting.
More pictures in my blog.

# 8 is ready for Christmas

This month I have a Christmassy item done

This quilt top was on my UFO list last year and this year ...

I bought this jelly roll at a sale

I loved the colours... but I didn't note the name of the range

The top was made following a Quilt-a-long online but I also didn't keep a record of where that was.... so I do apologise for not giving credit there....

I was delighted for find just the perfect perfect binding... different shop different year and it was there waiting for me....

and I had some arbitrary Christmas fabric in my cupboard which was just perfect for the backing......

and I quilted rows ... and rows... and rows.....

stars and mistletoe and trees

ribbon and baubles and holly leaves

not a difficult design but the overall effect is fun

I have started the lovely motivational stitcheries from Dawn and Wendy .... now I have to finish something each month so I can do all the stitcheries....

Here's the first block of "Seasons Of".....

I am using a charm pack of Bliss with some plain white homespun for the stitcheries

Thanks Dawn and Wendy... these are so cute

Righto... gotta go.... I'm sure there is another UFO leaping out at me....

A second finish for April (before the month is out!)

As for most teachers, holidays are a busy time with my own children at home - you sort of moving from looking after other people's kids to looking after your own just to go back to looking after other people's kids lol. I was very lucky these holidays to also have my DH at home, he's been completing heaps of his own UFOs in the garden. The weather was also kind to us, and add the new xbox kinnect to that I got quite a bit of time to do my own thing!

QAYG as learnt from Mari on The Quilting Edge

Diane Gaudinsky Echo Plume Feathers plus stippling as taught by  Leah Day around it

I should have ironed that binding, it looks like I missed the edge of the batik but I didn't lol

My QD9 was finished on Friday, though I have to admit there are still a few stray thread ends on the back which I will tend to soon. I really like how it turned out, the pattern offers lots of different options for setting the blocks. I am especially proud of the quilting, only during the process of making this quilt did I learn to quilt nice feathers. This was my first go at QAYG, too, love it, will definitely do that again! Here you can read a summary of how it all came together.

Happy Sewing!

A Finish!!!

Last year in the mail I received from Bev over at Kainga Happenings  three lovely machine embroidered pieces.  When I got them a few things went through my head what to do with them.  First was a wall hanging, then cushions, back to wall hangings, then back to cushions.  I had material to do both.

Well finally I decided cushions and last weekend I added the inner borders on them and before doing the outer borders lined them up side by side and instantly thought table runner.

So with out further ado here is the table runner

Early April Finish

Typically I sneak in in the last few days of the month, but today I have an early April finish:
This is (finally) for my little niece Storm who at 27 months is due to move out of the cot into her big girl's bed! I am almost ashamed to admit that is is made from the leftovers of my pinwheel table cloth I finished in January. It had all started out as a Moda Jelly Roll, you know the ones that look like a humongous lollipop? I just had to have that :-) The pinwheels were cut at 60 deg angles out of pieced jelly roll strips, and there were heaps of leftovers after. I pieced the leftover triangles into rectangles, put them into a tessellating pattern with white blocks added in (that's the ones with the appliques hearts and flowers). They again formed pinwheels! I added border after border (still using the leftovers!) to bring it up to a single size and appliqued her name on. The batting is polyester, I had forgotten how slippery that can be! I have put a post on my own blog and will include some more photos soon, too, so come over and have a look how it all came together.
Closer up of the quilting - I had forgotten how much loft polyester batting can have!

The quilting was inspired by Christina on A Few Scraps - to me it feels like some of the beautiful  little weeds that creep up fences

Probably my quickest finish to date, it took 13 days from start to finish - so why post it here? The bag with leftovers had been in my WIPs / UFOs for yonks, and the quilt I had started for Storm last year has turned into my own (still not finished) QD9. Regardless, I love all you gals company in getting through my UFOs!!!!

A little finish

At the beginning of the year I decided to play along with a Pay it forward and this is the first of my Pay it forward gifts.  Using a Twirl charm pack I made a bright and fun patio cushion, thought it would brighten up some ones room as we head into winter.

Here is my finished Brick Quilt.  Made from Strawberry Fields and Bella Solid White it contains 363 bricks and measures 78" square.

I almost gave up with 10 rows to go but I'm glad I hung in there.  It's off to be quilted tomorrow.

I've been finishing and not posting =(

For some reason, it seems that I don't get posts
and pictures to this blog and I'm going to try to
do better....I promise.

Jan finish
This was a kit that one of our local quilt shops
calls "BIG DADDY".  It's all 8.5" squares.  It went
together really quick.  I've made several tops of  this
same "pattern".
=====

Feb finish....
It's a stack and slash method.  Each big block is
4 stack-slash blocks put together.  This was a quilt
that I started...... ummm, probably 7 years ago.  I dug
it out and decided to just.... get 'er done.  It's all flannel
=======

March finishes

These are both just small baby quilts made to
practice working with my Innova long-arm.
The top one is all flannel.  The bottom one is
cotton "fancy kitties" and flannel back the same
as the binding.
====
Okay, I'm gonna try to be better this month.
I will post as soon as I finish....something =P
