October Finish!!!

Once again, sneaking in at the last minute!  This topper was cut out  September of 2011........but now it's finished!!!  YIPEEEEE!  Actually there's another one, but that will have to wait till next month.  Thanks so much Wendy and Dawn for our Sew It's Finished Group!!  Happy November everyone.

Updating "Christmas bells" post with photo

Hi again
Here's the promised photo of my finished result.   Sorry it is dark.  I edited the brightness but it hasn't been applied, so seems I'm still having tech troubles.   Thanks Tracee for your kind comment - hope my version appeals to you.  I am so glad this is finished at last.

Now to find the  next challenge ...

2 months without a finish, but here is my 9th for the year

Hi everyone

I've been tangled up with technology hassles, so have not even looked at recent posts here for several weeks, sadly, and have missed the inspiration.  I've also been working on current projects, so they don't qualify for posting here, but I have finally made time for one lingering item from the back-log cupboard:  "Christmas Bells", a pattern from Just Patchwork, NSW.

This project started as all mine do - lots of energy and enthusiasm (in 2008?) - then this one went in the 'too hard' basket after I had all the fabrics fused in place.  The bias binding for the stained glass look beat me time after time whenever I brought out this project.  It simply would not sit right, so back in the cupboard it went.  I finally decided to overcome the difficulties this September and have fought with the nasty black tape for weeks until I am sort of satisfied with the result.  Then I had problems with the backing and quilting, so maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind when I completed it  today - photo of my finished project to follow when camera working again.  In the meantime, I'm attaching a photo of the original pattern so you can see what it should look like.

Again, I've been so impressed and inspired seeing what everyone has been creating.  Congratulations to those who have already managed to finish items this month, and happy stitching to the rest of us who still want to get more done.

Teddy in the cabin cushion

I had this pieced panel that has been left to wait since September 2009 until I picked it up again this month.
I had been hoping to finish it in August but I never managed to quilt it until earlier this month. I decided on a straight lines quilting design off-centred.

And finally last week I made the cushion cover with some teddy bear fabric that I had in my stash from a few years ago.
My cushion is now finished and teddy is now sitting very comfortably in Miss Strawberry Shortcake's room.

The Witch Is In

I have made this little wall hanging three times now in the past year. This one was for a special young lady at our church who adores Halloween and spends the entire month doing something different each day. I used a candy corn border and she was so thrilled!

This is the back. Last year I made a few for family members.

I know I haven't posted in quite awhile but I have been busy making quilts for a cause I felt very close to. Of course I do pop in and check all your wonders out!

Finish # 10 for October

My store manager asked if I could make something to donate to the raffle we are having at work to raise money for NBCF.

I had a stitchery in mind. Part of Bronwyn Hayes BOM Songbirds but not sure how to finish it.

I remembered that I had a little hanger from a sale. It still had the price on it......$4......quite a steal. I wish I could remember where I bought it. So it just needed borders and I did very minimum quilting.

I am going to have to make another one just for me because I love how it turned out.  I hope whoever wins the raffle loves it too.

2 Finishes

2 Finishes on one day! The bag was just in need of the handles and the inside bottom had to be sewn up! The pouch needed a closure and some decoration(the flowers) and voila: 2 finishes! The bag was waiting for a whole year for handles and today I finally got around to the task! It was my housekeeper's birthday today and she is very pleased with the bag! The pouch is for a blog friend I am hoping to meet this week!!

Not a UFO - but a finish (at last)

This quilt was made for a friends birthday.  I started it a few months ago so not a UFO!
The hexes are large at 6.5 inches from point to point.  Great for FMQ practice.

I have been working on one of my UFOs now and again but having caught up with a couple of months of blog posts on here I have been so impressed by all the finishes that I am determined to work on it next weekend.

VERY PROUD OF THIS ONE

Well... I used some more of the little animal blocks I made over two years ago to make this Cot Quilt for my 11th Grandchild, who is due on the 1st of January.
HE will be our 6th Grandson, and we have ANOTHER grandson due early February!
We are 'good breeders' in this family!

Anyway.. here's the quilt I made for him:

you can't see it, but the quilter did little Noah's Ark animals along the top and bottom, kites down each side, butterflies, leaves and branches through the main part.  I love it.

The back is just little blocks of colour... I usually just use one fabric, but I had so many little bits of fabric hanging around I decided to use them.

I will make a label for this quilt tonight.... then it will be hidden away until Christmas.

I made a cot bumper set to match this quilt too... must find the photos I took and show you too.

THIS IS FINISH NUMBER 6.

You girls are the best!

Wendy and Dawn, I really have to thank you so much not only for running this but also for the added incentives you offer - I would never have thought I would get through as much as I have already! I have been so lucky to win your Sew Stitchy charm pack and received 9 of your lovely BOMs, so I just have to keep on going to make it all 12;-) You are the best!!!

Here is my October finish, finish #17, which is like a journey through my quilting progress over the last year or two: Inspired by Gloria Loughman's work I doodled in fabric, and from left where I started to right, and then the back, you can see my progress: From raw edge and stitched down applique, carefully drawn and cut, to freemotion quilting on freehand cut shaped and trapunto circles, the quilting mainly inspired by Leah Day and Angela Walters as well as tutorials from the FMQ Challenge on SewCalGal. The material is all various scraps, except on the back where I used the dropcloth from my fabric painting. Instead of a hanging sleeve I used I think LuAnn Kessi's method of attaching fabric triangles in the top corners so all you do is put a piece of thin doweling in there and if you use small hooks, you can mount your wallhanging pretty much invisibly! (sorry, haven't taken a photograph from the back yet).

I'm starting to scratch the bottom of the barrel but I'll try to get a finish in next month again. At the same time though I have started enough new things that I just might have to go on another UFO completing round next year...
Happy Sewing!

Finish 15,16, and 17: Hay Bale, Ornaments, and Halloween

I Finished!  I started this quilt over 1 1/2 years ago and worked on it whenever there was time.  This quilt is for me and I usually have hard time finishing things for myself.  It's a large lap quilt and it will be great to snuggle under while reading.

The pattern is Edyta Sitar's Hay Bale.   I had Dan do the quilting for me - He does such beautiful work!  Look at the detail he quilted on each block - I never can figure out which pattern would work best and Dan and Joyce always manage to pick out just the right one -Thanks!

I also finished a couple of ornaments that must have been started over 10 years ago...it's amazing what you can find in a basement - there's enough to keep me busy for years.

Last but not least I finished a Halloween pattern I picked up over three years ago.  I traced the applique and started to collect fabric and then it was lost(?) in the basement.  It's bright and really brightens my door.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Up to Date…at last!!!

Hi girls,

sorry for the delay....where oh where does the time go??? Is it just me or is the wheel just spinning faster and faster.....I seem to be like that proverbial mouse...never reaching my destination!!! Ah well, Dawn and I finally were able to align our timetables and get our lists of finishers done, so you'll notice the blog is now updated with 17 finishes for August and 22 finishes for September and a total number for the year so far of

331

...WOOOHOOOOO.....well done ladies and a BIG congratulations on getting that pile of UFO's down!!!

Never in a million years did we think we'd reach that many.....the hopes were there but.....I wonder if we can make it to 500 by the end of the year???? Let's aim for it, hey????

Keep plodding with the rest of our finishes......remember half of October is already finished so it won't be long now before another block might just  hit your inbox!!!!

Candy necklace

I completed this quilt on Sunday, sitting in the sun stitching the binding in place.  The original pattern (from Homespun magazine) was called trinket boxes, but I have named my version candy necklace.

It reminds me of the candy necklaces that I used to eat as a young girl.

I love the seminole border, and this is the first quilt that I have done stipple quilting on all over and was surprised at how easy it turned out to be.

FOR CORBIN

Hi Ladies, well I have another UFO finished!  IT IS MY 5TH FINISH FOR THE YEAR... SO FAR.   I'm not getting through that many at the moment as I'm working on new projects too.

This little wall hanging was started at least 2 years ago... and it really didn't take much to finish it.

I made it for a Girlfriend's little boy,  Corbin: (it measures about 1 meter X 1.50 meters)

I hope he likes it.
I am now off to continue on another UFO... which will be for Corbin's bigger brother Guy.

EDITED:  I added some '3-D' leaves ...

Much happier with it now.

Baby quilts

I have been busy making lots of little quilts, Two girls at work are expecting, so is my personal trainier, and last but not least my step daughter is expecing baby number two.

So I am making lots of little tummy time quilts as gifts,  here are the ones I have done so far.   Two of these were made in September but I never got them posted in time.

They are all of my own design, I have some cute elephant fabric and am planning one in orange and blue (for a little boy).  I do know what two of the babies are going to be (not telling) but the others will be a surprise so I need to have boy and girls covered in my gift pile.

An October finish (#16)......

I had a deadline for early October to finish this quilt..... and it is done in time... yayayay

Here is where I was at last year when I photographed all my UFO's for this years Sew It's Finished challenge from Dawn and Wendy......

as this was a stitchalong with others I was well encouraged by others in the group to have this finished in time....

.... I have loved stitching each of the blocks......

..... and making the backing from leftover fabrics ......

.... I just gotta have a picture of the quilt in a tree...

So much inspiration and motivation from others to have this quilt finished .... thanks to everyone

Christmas is Coming

I have one done and one more to go

My daughter gave birth to twin boys this year and I wanted to make them each a Christmas stocking for their first Christmas. I have started  the other little dude his. If nothing happens I should have done in time.
Now does this get you in the Christmas frame of mind. There is only 84 day until the big day.
