Block 2 “Seasons of…..”

February’s finishers will have already received their gift of the second block of “Seasons of…”

Last month was Dawn’s month to design, so I spent the afternoon in front of the telly stitching it up.

It’s a gorgeous little design, don’t you think? Full of flowers and hearts….very Valentine-ish..….she’s such a talented gal!

Next month it’s back to my turn to design and I have a little St Paddy’s magic in mind! Have to wait and see!!!

Keep up the fantastic effort on the finishes……58 for February which was sensational, seeing it was a shorter month (even though it had an extra day!!!)

Now, if only I could keep up with you all!!!!!

Carousel quilt finished

This is my third quilt finish this year ( I am not counting the little projects I make along the way)
The carousel quilt is a gift for my grand daughter Ziva who was born last November. You cant see it in the picture, but her name is embroidered on the flag.

There is some beading on the horse, so this is going to be a wall hanging, and I did put a hanging sleeve on the back.

I finished these in February - but forgot to blog here!!

I got this finished in February - but forgot to put it on this blog. I put it on mine!! So here is my finish from 2011.

My other finishes were only started this year - so they probably don't count for this one - but they're all on OPAM. Hope to have another one done for March - another quilt. This is the top - not quilted yet!

Yippee! Another finish! This was started in 2011, and just needed to be quilted and bound. I can't wait to hang it on the wall in my sewing room.

By the hair of my chinny chin chin! LOL Actually, I did get this done on Monday, but couldn't get it posted until now. So here is my February 2012 UFO finish! By the way--I'm in Central Ohio and look at that photo--it was taken the end of February----sunny and green grass! Totally whacky winter!

This was a sampler quilt that I designed for a Beginning to Quilt class that I taught last year. I usually don't quilt my samples as they are too heavy to hang throughout my classroom. But now is the time to start finishing those samples!

Talk about leaving it til the last minute!! But isn't that what deadlines are all about????
I don't remember now when I started this quilt - I selected bright balis in consultation with D#1 and did a class at my LQS. I got the top finished over a year ago and 3/4 of it quilted. So this year I have finished the quilting and done the binding so its all done now and ready to hand over to D & SIL. I hope she still likes it. (And of course it goes with the little table toppers I finished for January.) Its quite big - it easily covers the top of a queen sized bed.

See this little tag. it is part of a bigger picture. I finished the bigger picture for Christmas, but this little tiny simple tag didn't get done. It has been nagging me from my incomplete basket. Whispering not always quietly....... Well it is done. I had completed the stitchery about two years ago, all I had to do was blanket stitch it to the felt and add the ribbon and bells.

This is the bigger picture it belongs too.

I know it is only another small one, I have had kids and then husband home on holidays so I have not had the house too myself since the 1st of December 2011. I have now finally got rid of them all and the juices to sew are starting to flow. I have some big ones to finish so here's to March.....

So it took longer than planned but I did get Under the Sea by Cheryl Goss of Willowberry Designs finished this afternoon. This bom was started 2010.
I am really happy with the way it turned out.

Back looks good too for a change of scenery.

Now to work on another 2 year old bom as my finish for March.

Hi!
I have an almost Feb finish, but work got in the way before I could finish sewing this together as a cushion before I left to go on vacation!
I'll get this cushion finished up when I get home as it is my Leap Day Bloghop Giveaway (with a little more TBA when I get home, I promise).

I'm behind on checking your Feb finishes, but I'll catch up!
I'll get a UFO done for March too when I get home.

I had these finished a couple of days ago but wasn't able to find time to take some pics. They aren't the best pics due to our gloomy weather here in the Nations Capital.

My 2nd UFO finish is a little table runner that was one of the projects at a stitching day I went to last year in May I think. I started it the day I got home and have just finished!!!

and my 3rd finish is using the left over blocks from Rhiannon's That Girl quilt which I finished in feb 2011. I made the two left overs to make at her request a quilt for Rosie Bear

Rhiannon has said Rosie loves it!!!

So that's finishes 2 and 3 for me...I am working on getting Milla's birth quilt finished (only 5 months late) so we can deliver it on the 10th....then I need to do a little sewing for the fete then back to the UFO pile and hopefully get Isaac's Boy Story quilt finished for my March finish

UFO Project # 5 .....

It is the end of February already and since it is a leap year we got an extra day.... thank goodness!! I am always happy to be given an extra day

I worked out that if I can do 2 of my UFO's a month I will get through them this year - I wonder if I will keep up... anyway.. this is my second UFO for February

This quilt is made from favourite T shirts of one of my sons... I had cut them and got them all prepared some time last year and then they sat waiting for inspiration....I did get blocks together in January and last week I did the quilting (takes me a few days as I only do a bit at a time) and the binding was stitched down this weekend whilst I watched some cricket....

An all over meander.... .the T shirt fabric isn't the best to practice FMQ - but it will hold together...

I can't pass by spots or stripes on binding.. and this one had all the right colours....

I know youngersonthirdborninthefamily will love it....

it is soft and cuddly .....

I used one of the printed pieces for my label... rather amused me....

It will be off to it's new home soon....

This is a project which was started two years ago when I went to Girls Day in the Country in Nundle. It was designed by Kerry as a project to practice punch needle. I had the punch needle done but I needed to finish the case. Finally it is done....just when I am about to go to Girl's Day in the Country again where there will be more new projects. Hopefully they won't take so long to finish.

Mystery UFO finished

I finished one UFO yesterday

but I can't show a picture as yet because I need to send it to the recipient first, hence the name for now of Mystery UFO.

Of course I am happy and proud to have finish one UFO of my list. But I am also ashamed it has taken me so long because this was a friendship project. I gathered the blocks in the Spring last year with a view of assembling and finishing the quilt to send it off in the summer. But life got in the way, I spent most of the summer with no energy, resting most of the time and being signed off work. Then I went back to work in September and I must admit I did pick that project first because I had so much to catch up with. So I only picked the blocks again towards the end of last year with the idea of finally making the quilt. I managed to piece the top before Baby Daughter was born but didn't go any further so, of course, it had been waiting since. Finally earlier this month, I picked it up again to add the border, quilt the top and this last week add the binding. The quilt is now finish and ready to fly!

This one is called Raising Cane and is another mystery from 2009. It is from A Pocket Full of Mysteries yahoo group and was designed by Dorothy Young. I am so excited to have some of these tops out of the closet and turned into quilts.

February UFO - Done

This month I chose to finish this hexagon table topper. I started this project about 4 years ago and finished it quickly except for the origami flower inserts. I was just never happy with how they were finished off.

The Origami flowers were very fiddly

The pattern instructions was to sew a button to the centre of the flower which I did but I was never happy. Maybe the buttons were not big enough and the raw edges kept creeping into view. What to do? Deciding to finish this project forced me to think about it a great deal and come to a decision about what I was going to do and I came up with applying some circles over the raw edges with heavy duty "heat and bond" and then sewing a button over that.

I was really happy with how this all turned out. I used a bigger sized button which cost me a fortune but well worth it now that it is finished.

I did toy with the idea of hand quilting the hexagons but decided against it. This whole table topper is hand sewn and was a joy to create (except perhaps for the origami bits!)

Back in 2007 I went along to a work shop run by the local CWA. I bought this kit and started making the caddy.
Then it was tucked away in the back of my cupboard in the cave.

and I am now pleased to say it is finally finished.

A Mystery Finish

Last year our Mystery Club presented us with a challenge to use the "Ugly" fabric we exchanged. As you can see I ended up with this Very Bright Yellow and Black stripe yard of fabric. I really didn't like the fabric but after adding black it didn't look so bad.

I completed the top and tossed it with other UFO's. This month I quilted and bound it....Sew It's Finished #5. Now I can start a new project....since I finished an old one.

With the start of the school year, life has become definitely more crazy again, but I still managed to complete these two WIPs:

Some of the quilting from the back; I followed Leah Day's advice about matching top and bobbin thread. There are some puckers, but nothing 'fatal'.

Youngest DS fast asleep under his new quilt (with his thumb plucked in) - didn't even wake up when I turned on the big light to take this pic. Note the dinos on the blinds?

I can't remember if I had counted this next project on my UFO list at the start of the year, but it was started in 2011 and is finished now:

I made this as a practise for my pastel tesselation quilt to go onto our NZ Superking size bed. Using it as practise piece for feather quilting, I divided it in half diagonally like the Quadruple Disappearing Nine Patch which will also go on our bed.

It took me some time to figure out how to do plumes in the inside of a circle.

On SewCalGal's site is an excellent tutorial on quilting feathers by Diane Gaudynski as part of the 2012 FMQ Challenge (I didn't sign the pledge but still find it interesting to look at). I had read one of Diane's books, but her tutorial was a lot more helpful to me.
If I counted right, this makes it 6 finishes so far - yay!

This quilt is one that I started in September 2011 as a QAL with our fabric store in the area. It was done on a monthly basis; I hand quilted it this past week. It measures 60"x70". The applique piece along the top was cut out with the Go!Baby....the die is the Round Flower.

Yah, Number Four

How Does Your Garden Grow is a quilt kit by Pat Wys I started back in 2005. I had some of the blocks made but none of the appliqué. I wasn't really a fan of applique' back then but over the years I have come to really enjoy doing all types of applique'
On this quilt I decided to try something I hadn't done before - Hand appplique' by machine.
Instead of using freezer paper to make my shapes I used a wash away fusible material sold by Jenny Haskins called Tearaway Magic. This material is supposed to dissolve when washed so you don't have to cut your background to remove the paper. I think it worked pretty well. Most of it dissolved leaving only a few fibers which seemed to give the applique' a little poof. I have a little more explanation here.
This group has really been great for helping me finish some of my projects.

A Little Late

This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my son's girlfriend. I had the panel stitched but didn't get it finished until yesterday. Here it is (and I'm really pround of this one):

Here is a good view of the panel. It is an applique pattern from Erin Russic at One Piece at a Time.

Here is a good picture of some of the quilting I did to it. The center is cross-hatching, the flower border is a surpentine and the green outer border has a pointed design. It turned out just like I planned.

Table Topper Finished

Hello I'm Carol from Carol's Crafty Creations, so glad to be in this group that encourages us to get er done. I made this Springy table topper a year ago but never got around to getting it quilted and finished. I sent it off to my friend who does longarm quilting and it's finally finished. The quilting is vey cute with Umbrellas. I couldn't figure out what I had in my stash big enough for the backing and found a nice Riley Blake umbrella fabric thus our idea to use umbrellas for the quilting. I'm thinking of it as April Showers bring May Flowers cause the colors in the quilt are very Springy.

I donated this quilt top to my friend at work who is trying to raise money to do a Bike Ride for Diabetes. She has it in our break room at work and selling raffle tickets for it. It will be interesting to find out who at my work will be the winner of my table topper. That's my February finish.

Another two finishes

last week i finished these 3 hand towels that have been half made for around 2 years. The toppers were made just needed to have the towels added. These make my 5th finish.

My 6th finish and the biggest so far is my Iowa Girl tablecloth that I started over 5 years ago. The top was completed in the year it was started but I put it aside as I could not afford to have it professionally quilted & I knew it needed more than ditch quilting or the very poor stippling I have since tried. So this year I have joined SewCalGals FMQ challenge to help me get my confidence up with quilting. January's tut was free flowing flowers. Mine are all over the place and not very even but i had a go and it got another UFO happening. I finished the binding last night while watching a movie with my daughter.

Finishes 4, 5 and 6!!!

FINALLY! I finished our RUFFLE quilts! I first saw this idea here and started collecting those beautiful vintage sheets for our throws. I was making one for both girls and one for myself so we could all sit and watch movies with our 'girly quilts'. My plan was to give these to my girls for Christmas in 2010 but I quit sewing on them because I hurt my back. I was so discouraged that I couldn't give these to my girls that I put them in a laundry basket and there they stayed. I had everything cut and ready to start sewing.

In my Year of FINISHED UFO's~ this one was one of high priority to me. I sewed ruffles and more ruffles and more ruffles! I broke needles because my ruffler was so busy, it would jiggle the alignment off and my needle would hit metal or the sheets were too dense and I didn't want to slow down! I had tension issues, thread breaking, sewer problems and many other 'life issues' come at me all at once while working on these for the past week--- but I did it! I finished our ruffle quilts! I am in love with each one all for different reasons! Sew-- here they are:

My Henrietta Whiskers and Friends….

Last year I enjoyed doing The Henrietta Whiskers and Friends. This was a free BOM with Anne Sutton from Bunny Hill.
I stitched each block on time ready for the next. Even put the quilt top together quiet quickly BUT then it just sat around the cave for ages needing
quilting.
It has been under my machine all week and last night I finally finished it YEH!!!!!!!

Two Finishes...

I've managed to finish the second quilt from the top of my UFO pile. It's the same pattern as my first finish for the year - from a one day mystery from long ago. The first one had planets and this one has fish.

I didn't realize until I laid the quilt out to trim the edges that I had put the focus squares in sideways! I put the top together long enough ago that I don't know if it's an 'oops!' or was on purpose. (It may just be that I picked bright enough fabrics that I never noticed the squares due to the glare! snicker!) This is another quilt that will go right to use on the boy's beds. All 3 boys are in car-shaped toddler beds, so quilts this size are seeing a lot of use right now. Thankfully, they all love bright colors!

I had one other finish for January that I didn't think to report. I got a over-sized couch pillow many years ago that I just love. It's big, cushy, and moldable - perfect for the couch. The boys have all agreed and loved on and used that pillow since they were tiny. So many years of loving (and washing) started showing in its cover last spring. The cover was so thin that the stuffing could be seen through it. I kept thinking I would just get some replacement fabric the next time I made it to a fabric store. I have to admit I haven't made it there yet. I did, however come across a robe in January that we had sitting in the donation box. The robe was so soft, I wished I had a use for it - and then my brain finally clicked on and this is the result:

The boys love the 'new' pillow. The robe material is thick enough it should be several years before I have to re-cover it. I just love quick win projects! Now to figure out which UFO to conquer next!

Bed Cushions - My Feb Finish :)

The other day I managed to finish these cushions for our bed which I started when Mark and I bought the paintings above our bed about 6 months ago.

I LOVE them! I really think the colours are perfect for the paintings.

And I can cross another project off the list!

Seeing these on my bed really motivates me to get more projects finished...Its so much nicer seeing them in use than seeing them in a plastic storage container in my sewing room!

Two Finishes So Far

I can finally call this one finished and gift it to my brother. It was started in July or August 2011 for his 40th Birthday in Sept 2011 at which time I presented him with the top and a promise to complete it in the not too distant future.

I'll be handing it over this Friday and I'm pretty sure a 6 month turn around from start to finish would be a record for me too! Here's the label on the back to show that it is 100% done :)

Finish #3!!!

I was lying in bed looking in the top of my closet and saw the 'dreaded' quilt that I have shuffled around for the last 10 years.... or so. Since I have declared this year the "Year of UFO's" I pulled it down... again. I looked at it and wondered once again why I thought this was so frustrating I threw it in the closet. Then~ I remembered! The back kept shifting. So I kept ripping it out. And resewing and ripping.... and 'storing it for later'. And so the pattern went.

It was an easy finish (sort of) and I was determined to do it! So... a few days ago- I sewed and ripped and sewed. I like things perfect- so I couldn't LEAVE it! I think the problem stemmed from this being the FIRST EVER quilt I quilted myself AND the heavy batting AND the 74x74ish size... who would have thought that they could quilt a quilt of this size and weight on their short arm? Oh yeah-- ME!

I thought it ironic that this line was so appropriately named for MY quilt: Attic Treasures by Brannock and Patek. Sew~ this is MY attic treasure!

I started it 10 years (or so) ago and ONLY had to finish quilting in the ditch around the red border, quilt the black and get the binding on. Sew, that is what I did one day! All in all-- it was never as bad as I thought- but a few lessons learned and great victory won in this finish!!

I started this quilt in 2010. It was a block of the month I was doing with a girlfriend at her local quilt shop.
We were almost finished when the tutor went on holidays. So there it sat with a block still to do and be put together.

So I bought it out again early this year to finish as part of my drive to make a dint in my UFOs. It is such a lovely quilt, it makes my feel very satisfied to see it finished. Boy Genius, our 19 yo has claimed it...looks great on his bed.

UFO # 4 - Tube Quilt for Sally

This is #1 on my UFO's listed earlier this year

and I finished it in January so it could be posted over to England for a SIL's 50th birthday/30th Wedding anniversary

I used a Jelly Roll in Portabello Market for the blocks ...

Some detail of the quilting.... I used a variegated thread.... four leaves at each block and concentric petals at the sides... and feathers for the borders....

Wool Candlemats, 3rd and 4th finishes

I joined a wool candle mat of the month (June 2011 - May 2012)and finished June and July's by August and then I let things slip. I started working on September's - Acorn candle mat after Christmas and finished that one today. The December - Poinsettia candle mat was started in January and finished just one day ago. I still have Aug, Oct and Nov to stitch - I just found August's last week! I'm really good at starting projects but as you can tell I don't stick with them. Thanks to Sew It's Finished I'm going to FINISH some of these shelved projects!

Just wanted to let you know I have finished another SIF !

I had 2 pairs of PJ's I started about 18mths ago. I got half way through making these and realised they were too small.
So today I thought, got to get something finished this month, not much to do on them. Then I tried them on after I finished and they fit.

Finishes Two and Three

I finished a couple of more UFO'S this week. This first one if from Australian Patchwork & Quilting Magazine 2004. It only needed some quilting and binding and I don't know why I put it off for so long.

This little alphabet quilt was started when I was at the AccuQuilt retreat in June 2011. I used their dies to cut out the alphabet since I don't have those. Last week I got it quilted and bound. Now that it's washed I think the squares could have used a little quilting.

Number 2 Finish

Yahooooooooo another finish. My hearts table runner is complete. I have quilted in some hearts free motion style in 2 different sizes and quilted in the ditch around the stitcheries.

The Back

I have used, looks like a polyester wadding and it has really puffed the quilting up and the stitcheries. Usually I use a cotton wadding and when I compare the 2 different types the quilting is not as noticeable on the cotton. I guess it depends on the look you are after. I think the cotton wadding can make a quilt quite stiff if it has a lot of quilting where the poly would be more fluffy.
At present I am about getting my projects finished and using up what I have in my stash so I will use what wadding I have in my stash for now. Very happy with the finished project and another UFO crossed off my very long list. The stitcheries were completed in February last year. Took me another year to get it pieced together and quilted. This is a newer UFO in my huge pile. Now off and onto the next UFO.

Hi everyone, I am pleased to be the 100th member to join up - whew just made it in the nick of time.
My new years resolution was to finish three UFO's before starting any new projects so January was a busy UFO month for me.

I have only been a quilter for about 5 years now, so my UFO pile doesn't date back too far. Here is my first UFO for 2012.

I finished the stitchery and piecing but never got around to putting it all together, so that was my mission. My recollection is that I started this some time late in 2009. The recipient of this quilt was my niece Kai as it went perfectly in her bedroom.

My second finish was Oodles of poodles, I started this one in 2011 so it did not sit in the UFO pile for too long, but the layer cake that I used to make this quilt had been in my stash since about 2009.

My third finish is just a little pin cushion. I did the stitchery and cut it out quite some time ago, and never got around to putting it together. So in my mission to have 3 finishes before I started anything new, this counted as finish #3.

I finished this quilt yesterday. It is a gift for a liitle girl, grandaughter of a friend of mine in America. It's to say thank you for all the wonderful fabrics she sends me.

First time I've done machine applique and I quilted it on my domestic sewing machine. actually it's my only sewing machine!

First Finish for 2012

A lap quilt for my mum. The top was pieced last year and so when the time pressure went on (because I was going to deliver it in person to her in Sydney in January) I got myself sorted and quilted it , bound it and there it was all finished, three weeks into the New Year. I wonder why it took so long??

I am going to try this and see what happens!

I started decluttering the house and could NOT part with any of my sewing stuff! Lo & behold, I found PLENTY of UFO's in those tubs that I decided I *have to finish them! Starting with the most recent "halos of guilt" I decided to tackle my daughters' quilts that I started the summer of 2011 when they went to camp.

I started with the smaller of my daughters' quilts. My younger daughter wanted a zigzag quilt and likes teal. Since I fell in love with the "Summer House by Lily Ashbury" line-- I just had to use those fabrics! Next time-- I will order more charm packs... but you live and learn!

quilt. She loves pink! Recently, we painted her room pink & black, so I made this quilt as a personal touch to her room. I am THRILLED I have finally finished this quilt! Most importantly, she is too!

I have recently taken up finishing 3- YES, THREE - ruffle quilts out of vintage sheets. I will be so relieved when those are done!

2nd UFO finished

Yesterday I went through my supply of UFOs to find something that I could work on and finish fairly quickly. I found 4 heirloom stitched corners which were to be part of a pillow from a class at Sewing Club, back in 2007 or 2008.

I found the pattern which went with it, but I think I have used some of the fabric I needed for it, so had to find another way of making it up. This fabric I used for the centre of it has been in my stash for a while also, and I love the large rose and the colours - it worked perfectly with the corners added.

The piping was part of the original pattern design, but it was meant to have a frill. I used the lace as an edging ~~as I thought the frill would not suit the fabric and design I had used~~ I dont like sewing frills.

I have this runner ready for quilting. The stitcheries were free from here I started these stitcheries last year got them finished then they just sat around waiting to be put together.

My 3rd UFO is another table runner. This was started soooooooooooooooo long ago I think maybe 8 years. I don't know why it has taken me so long to complete it. I did the stitcheries here and there and you can see the improvement in my stitching from the early stitcheries to the ones I have completed just recently. This runner is a pattern from a book brought out by Australian Patchwork and Quilting in 1999!!!!!!!! The pattern is called 'Debonair Dining'

I am really happy so far this year that I am continuing only working on UFOs and that I haven't tired of it yet. A good sign that maybe I have finally cured that nasty Procrastination bug.

Hopefully this weekend I can get stuck into the quilting of both runners and my next post here will be about UFO 2 & 3 completed.

Flying kites on a winding day

I started this kite sometime last year. It just needed the binding hand sewn to the back and the tail added. I finished it up while watching the Super Bowl on Sunday. I used a Moda Bakeshop pattern. The pattern makes a small kite perfect for a baby's room. I think the next time I will cut the squares larger for a bigger kite. Maybe add an initial or a name to personalize it. The binding was a bit tricky because of the bottom point but it worked out in the end.

2012 First Finish

My first finish for 2012. This quilt is a BOM from Stitch 'N Quilt a local shop that has been closed for several years.

The blocks were made in 2005 and forgotten about, but since joining Sew It's Finished I have been going through my UFO's to see what I have and I discovered this one. It was called Sunday Sampler because you picked up your block on Sunday afternoon. The first block was $5 but if you brought your block in completed the next month your block was free.

Last week I added the corners to the blocks, the black sashing, borders and quilted it.

HUGE January Finishes……

What a start to the year ladies!!!! You are truly ay-may-zing……and so inspiring…….Dawn and I nearly lost our breath as we counted up our finishes for last month……..

SIXTY-TWO altogether

…..that’s incredible, considering last year’s entire total was 228….

You girls have managed to accomplish more than 1/4 of all last year’s finishes in only one month!!!! Holy Guacamole!!!!!!! Incredible! What are we going to achieve THIS month???!!!! The sky’s the limit, I say! I can hardly wait to see!

For those of you who are kicking themselves under the table now for not quite making January’s deadline for the first surprise we promised you, Dawn and I have been discussing how we really didn’t give you much time to plan a finish so……….any finishers in February will qualify for both January and February’s blocks which we talked about here.

Maria’s given us a sneak preview of the ‘gift block’ all finishers received for January….how slick is she!!!….. now, you really have no excuses…..and seeing as it’s a leap year this year, you still have 27 days to get at least one UFO completed! Whaddya say????

As Dawn and I added up the totals, we thought we might just touch on a few housekeeping matters just to clarify……

* A ‘’finish’, in Sew It’s Finished terms, must be a completed UFO from your pile of UNFINISHED OBJECTS…..this can be small, big, individual, a pair or a set, but they must be from the depths of your cupboards and have been sitting there for more than a couple of months (before Dec 31, 2011) and are annoying the irrits out of you because they’re still UFO’s!!!! After all, that’s what our blog is all about!!!

*’Completed” means just that……it has to be completed…finished, terminado, cesado, accompli, finito! Nothing left to be done to it but used/gifted/hung/shared…..you get the idea!

*Posting – When you post about your finish, could you please indicate within the post which finish it is, when the item was started (can be approximate if it’s been faaaaar too long!), what you needed to do to finish it, whether it was just the binding, sew a button on, quilt it, etc and finish with your name. Just be aware that we now have 100 members, and some of you do share the same name so poor ol’ Dawn and I get so confused!!!!! If you share your name with another member (you can check the finishers’ list on the right hand sidebar), can you add the first initial of your surname as well please??? That way, we won’t do our heads in quite as much as we normally do! LOL

* Labels - you’ve probably noticed the cloud of labels in our right hand side bar and wondered why on earth we have so many and what do they do?? Well, when we are looking for something in particular, say… how many finishes Dawn has done…..we can click on the word ‘Dawn’, and every post that is labelled ‘Dawn’ will be listed! If you haven’t labelled your posts, finding info quickly is just not going to happen! Soooooo. when you write your post, it’s important you add labels to the end.

How you might ask?????… Once you’ve written your post, over on the right hand side of Blogger, there is a list of ‘Post Settings’….the first one is, you guessed it, “LABELS”. Click on ‘labels’ and it will open up with a box you can type in, plus a list of labels that have already been generated. Your labels' for each post MUST include…

I have spent a lot of this last month on my back. Could not sit up for a long time but I managed to finish this scarf. I started it after the craft fair last year and then got bored. So I started knitting again and now I am ready for winter. A very strange way of knitting,but very popular at the moment.I am pleased I have 1 UFO out of the way

Hello all, I am pleased to be joining in again this year with all you Sew It's Finished girls. My efforts last year were not brilliant, but I was chuffed to see the bag I finished made it into the mosaic for the header/sidebar button! I have updated my 2012 list on my blog. You can find it here if you're interested, but sadly it doesn't look all that different from last year.

Today I decided if I was going to squeeze in a finish before the end of the month it would have to be an easy one, and it didn't come much easier than finishing this little Lavender pillow from a Country Threads magazine, which I stitched about 6 years ago. For goodness sake, it only took about four minutes to stitch the opening closed! I'm pretty sure this is one I mentioned last year as being one that wouldn't take much effort to finish and still I left it a whole year - what is wrong with me??

Anyway, I am enjoying seeing so many finishes from everyone, and I'm sure there will be lots more in 2012.

Take two....

Well, I don't know about you, ladies but I didn't achieve my goals of UFO finishes for 2011, and after talking to Dawn, she didn't either so........

we've decided to keep our blog running this year to see how we go! Let's just say last year was a warm up, a trial run, so to speak and this year we'll 'take two'!!!!

With that in mind, we will need to begin with a new blog button for 2012 won't we???

Here it is for you to copy and paste onto your sidebars with a link back to our SEW IT'S FINISHED blog for others to come and look at your amazing finishes, which is sure to inspire them to achieve what you lot have this past twelve months!

Remember, even ONE ufo finished is one less than you had before, so don't be hard on yourselves if you didn't reach your target.

I've started already, with one UFO that was begun in 2010 and has been sitting there, at the safety pin stage for most of last year, ready to be machine quilted. I'm quite proud of myself as the quilting has begun and I figure it will be finished by next week if I keep plodding along!!!

We have another member to our blog too......welcome Kathleen from Rose Prairie Quilts . I'm sure we'll be seeing a few finishes from her in 2012, along with all of us! *wink wink*

A finish for January!

One of the lovely things about keeping a blog is that you can put dates to events and remember when things happen. However... there is an embarrassing side as well. I found the first post I made about this project back in December 2007. There is another one a little bit later and then a third one in January 2008. In that one I said I wasn't going to put it away because it won't get finished. Well guess what? It didn't ....until today. I put the last stitch in today. And here is my version of Trees on the Table, designed by Marcie of Patchalot Patterns. You can find the pattern and a gallery here. The lovely thing about this pattern is that it has a variety of different borders. It is just lovely and I am cross with myself for leaving it so long.

I also want to issue a warning about leaving things so long as well. I made the top back then and misplaced it for a while. Then I found it, sandwiched it and did a bit of quilting on it, probably about a year ago although it could be longer. When I got it out to finish I found that there must have been some damp and some of the pins I had left in there ( yes, I know we are told not to do that) looked like this.......

They were hard to remove and one or two just broke when I tried to get them out. In most spots it is okay but there is one which is a problem. These holes are not made by the pin but the corrosion from the pin has eaten the fabric.

So I hope this is giving you a little bit of incentive to get things finished. Not only do you prevent bad things happening over time but you also get to actually use them ( I would have loved to have used this last Christmas).

So I just made it in for a January finish. Yippee!

I am finally posting on some of what I finished. I am in a 30's club at a local quilt shop and I made these travel tissue covers for the ladies in the group. I made 16 of them. Nothing fancy but they are cute, these two are what was left over.

Then I was able to finish one of the hats for my grandsons that are due in a few months. Yes I said grandsons, their two of them coming and I am so excited since they are my first grandchildren. So I get to make double of everything.

I have plans for more knitted items like booties and sweaters, plus a few more hats.

Just Under the Wire

Hi Everyone! I'm so happy I was able to join this challenge. I have a long list of ufo's that keeps increasing! First on my list was my Funky Flower Jelly Roll 1600 - which I managed to finish for January (with just under 8 hours to spare - I've always been a last minute kinda girl!). Now I know the post says February 1st, but here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada it is almost 5 pm on January 31st!

I love the backing on this quilt. There will be many more of my quilts with the zipper, or piano key backs. The quilt is my own pattern, using the Jelly Roll 1600 technique. The flowers are fused, then blanket stitched. I'm thinking it's going to be a donation quilt for Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation center.

One finish for January

I guess the time stamp on my post will be 1st February but it still 31st January for just under 3 hours so I can report my first finish for the year and the month but my 6th finish since I joined the group last year! I managed to put the last stitch on the binding of one UFO tonight. I finished a candle mat that I started in November 2010. This was for a swap and with the instructions given, we were making two at a time. Of course I finished the first one then and there to send it in time for the swap. But the second one was half pieced and languishing in a plastic bag until last month. I finished piecing the top in December and was hopeful it would be all finished by year end.

But that was before Baby Daughter made her entrance into the world on Christmas Day! Anyway, it is now finished and I will be able to give it away as a birthday present later this year.

January 2012 Finish

Well, the push is on to get at least one project a month done - so here is my January offering. This was originally a small runner to go on the top of a bookcase in my daughters room to match the quilt I was making her. But life has moved on - she is married now and has 2 bedside tables instead of a book case in her room. So I chopped the runner in half and made 2 little quilts - about 12" square. They are made from the leftover triangle bits from the quilt which is why they do not match. (Quilt will be the February finish). I cant remember when I started this - hopefully by February I will have worked it out.

Funny - now that I look at the photo - one is predominately blue and one pink.

I started this quilt in March/April 2010 and was making it for my Aunt's 50th that was in July. So 7 months later here it is finished

The pattern is 'Life is Beautiful' by Hug's n Kisses

Who was I kidding thinking I could get all those stitcheries done in 2 months. Glad to say it's done and I will be glad to give it to Jenny. I highlighted some of the words by stitching them red. Words that described her and the things she does for us. Jenny looks after my elderly Grandparents and after my Grans stroke she did alot around their house, ran all over the place for them. Now they are in a village she still goes to take them to Dr's and out on outings. I wanted her to know we all appreciated what she does. Hope that she likes the quilt when she finally gets it.

Joy's Parting Gift

Wishing I had made the 'ties' a bit longer but too late now. It was made for a friend who moved out of state and I had all our our friends sign parting wishes for her. I was inspired by a pattern I saw, but didn't like the large size it made, so I just created my own. I sewed Jelly Roll strips together, adding a wide 'ribbon' 1/3 of the way over. Then I cut 1/3 off the top of the strip set and added another 'ribbon'. Added a bow and voila! Done! I quilted it with various size swirls. And it's on it's way.

This is my first post to this blog, thanks for having me! When I first started quilting about 6 years ago, I was certain I would 'only ever buy what I need for the current quilt' and definitely never do applique! Much has changed since, and in September last year I finally started blogging about my quilting here, which as of recent includes a page on home made recipes.

I live in the Far North region of New Zealand, so it is coming to the end of our summer holidays now. As wife, mum of three and full-time teacher time is at a premium, but to keep myself sane I just have to be creative! Many years ago, playing music filled up my / our time, I have enjoyed felting for a while, card making and scrap booking, but nowadays it usually has to do with quilting. These summer holidays I had a good clean up in my sewing room and found 10 UFOs or WIPs, and since the start of 2012 I have manage to complete some of these:

1. My first ever project, a Crazy Quilt kit set from Spotlight purchased in 2005. I started it before I owned a rotary cutter or a 1/4" foot, and when I recently completed the last block, I finally realised that indeed all the pieces would fit together if you did it right.

2. A Pinwheel Table Cloth, started last summer. Originally I had meant the squares to make individual cushions for our outdoor table / bench set, but even with protective spray the colour on the matching table runner faded too much so I turned it into a table cloth:

3. In some past Quilting Arts Magazine I read about turning pictures into quilts. Here are two of my three boys':

One more boy to go, there are plenty of nice pics but last time I checked, none suitable for this method, so you could say it's not a true finish but I count it anyway (can't finish what you haven't started, can you?).

There is one more WIP almost finished, I'll post a picture once I am finished with the binding and the gazillion thread ends of the youngest DS new Dinosaur quilt. I have been quite busy these summer holidays with various other small projects, feel free to check out my blog.

I started this little Christmas Swag in 2010 and then, even though I had everything to finish it, it has just sat in a box since then. As I am a late starter to this site and with only a couple of days to the end of the month, i wanted to get at least 1 UFO finished and couldn't get to sleep last night for thinking about which would be the most achievable UFO with so little time. This ONE:

All I really needed to do was add the snowflake buttons and then join them together with the Peppermint Candy Buttons....and....it is FINISHED!

It has been hot and humid, not a standard Perth summer. Usually it is just plain hot. My sewing is progressing mostly in the cool of the air conditioner which means hand sewing. I have a finish, I hope it counts for "Sew it's Finished " - it has been sitting in the bottom of my basket for quite awhile, at least six months and all they needed was press studs. They hadn't even made it to my UFO list. Why do we leave the smallest, simplest things so long? Seriously a press stud. Anyway complete are two camera bags.......... .

I finally finished this Christmas table topper for my daughter.

I started it at least two years ago and there was always something else 'I needed to finish first'. My daughter was so happy I finished that she typed my UFO list on my Blog - Thanks Katie! Whether your finish is big, little; old, a bit newer (but not new!); one or many, it will qualify you to receive our gift for the month. Yes, you ARE ~~hearing~~ reading correctly.......you WILL receive a gift EACH month you complete an outstanding UFO that must be from last year or before.

How are we going to do that, you may ask?

Well.....Dawn and I have been thinking long and hard and thought you guys could do with some rewarding for all the hard work you’ve been putting in ..... delving into those piles of ufo’s so, between us, we will be designing a “Seasons of “ BOM for Sew It’s Finishers, but only if you blog about a UFO finish from your list on the SIF blog by the end of the month . Each month there will be a new design for a block which will be in both stitchery and appliqué format and then on the twelfth month you will receive finishing instructions to complete your quilt.

Remember, no completed ufos for the month = no block!...sorry, but we need to encourage you to get those oldies out of the cupboard!!!!

We would be more than happy to see progress photos of your gift blocks on the SIF blog too.....I know...we’re sneaky but we want to keep inspiring and encouraging as many of you to finish your older UFO’s so that you want to get our gifties each month!!!

So.....let’s get to it....you have just over a week to go before the first gifts are sent out...so make sure you have a finish posted by then.

Hint: If you’re worried you’ll miss out, work on a small finish this month so that you can squeeeeeeeze it in before next week!

My first major finish of the year - and my first post !

Hello everyone.
My name is Rhianon and I have a blog over at The Nifty Stitcher.

I am so delighted to be part of this blog. I've been a quilter for over 12 years and came to it through my work as an embroiderer. I have a stack of UFO s to work my way through this year and I'm gonna do it!!

My first finish is this quilt :

I actually pieced the center this time last year and it hung in my workroom all year. It is a gift for my brother and his wife.

Here is a close up of my machine quilting. I've only been machine quilting for 10 months and I love it. Before that I quilted everything by hand.

Close up of the geisha fabric in the border.
This is going in the post today and I can't wait to hear their reaction. It's a complete surprise for them and I hope they love it.
I'm looking forward to making new quilty friends and I must say thank you to Dawn and Wendy for accepting me.

I'm leanne ... I blog over at daisyandjack and I'm so glad to be here.

I have quite a few UFOs (heaps really) but as I haven't actually got all my projects out to count them up I'm using the UFO list that I made in 2010 and then updated in 2011 but only managed to get three done last year - I'll have a new list as well ! I think my problem is that there are just too many projects that I want to do so I get started then see another one and ...well you all know the story :)

I'm going to post my list on my blog as soon as I get it sorted - hopefully in the next week but in the meantime here's a photo of a stitchery that I started sometime in 1996 (gee so long ago I'm struggling to remember) and it only needs a little bit more embroidery on the fence and some greenery around the roses on the gate and it will be finished - I can see that I unpicked the flowers on the fence at some point - so I'm definately going to add this one to the list - it seems a lot of my UFOs are the same - just a little bit to do and they're finished - so I'm determined this year :)

so here's to hopes and wishes and finished UFOs in 2012 !

Actual, real genuine finishes
"Minty Cream". My version of Cinderberry Stitches Raspberry Cream
Started I think February 2010, stitched, quilted and had binding attached March 2010. Finished today.
This is exactly how I left it almost 2 years ago. A bit back to front. This is actually the second finish. I didn't put a hanging sleeve on this as the plan is to have a hanging rail on the wall with the baby alligator curtain clips. Easy to swap out when ever I choose too.

Front. Apologies for the dodgy pics. It is stinking hot here and the house is all shut up and dark and the a/c is working its little heart out. I still really like this but am thinking that it needs to be made in candy colours (maybe) or even as the original version, in raspberry reds.

And the back to prove that all the tails have been trimmed and tucked and the binding is all sewn down.
Just saw the dividing line between the dining room and the lounge on the ceiling. That will be gone this weekend.

Finish number one was "Merry Christmas". A Gail Pan freebie. I think I started this late 2009 and the stitching was finished March 2010. Backing and binding done July 2010. Finished Sunday.

Chop sticks come in very handy sometimes.

Sorry for the out of focus pic. I could not get a steady pic of this so gave up and you got the least fuzziest.
Feels good to get these done but I still have lots more that are wip's wisp's or ufo's and I am about to start 2 new projects. Fun times at the machine.

A Finish!

Hi! I'm Laura from 3 Doodles and a Dog. I've been part of this blog for almost a year, but have yet to have any finishes to share. The quilt I'm sharing is a first for me in many ways - the biggest being my first quilt finish in over 6 years! (I have twin boys that just turned 5 - yes, there is a very strong correlation there!) After needing to move and reduce my stash multiple times since moving into our house 6 years ago, I finally got it organized last summer - and pulled all of my almost finished UFO's together. This quilt topped that stack:

It was from a one-day mystery back from maybe 2004? It had already been quilted in the ditch, I just needed to add some quilting in the blocks and border. I have about an an hour to an hour and a half every other night to quilt. Finishing this quilt took two nights to get the thread/tension/needle/etc set correctly so that the thread didn't break (ie nights spent cursing and re-threading the machine/picking stitches), and one night to finish the blocks and border quilting. It's probably the worst quilting I've done since I first started, but it felt so good to have everything working that I didn't stop to make it pretty. It's just going to be used, abused, and loved by my boys, so I can fix anything that falls apart along the way. Thankfully, there are several more like it at the top of my 'to-do' pile to practice on before I need to worry about 'pretty'!

I don't have an offical UFO list - I know it's still pretty useless to put one together; but I do have the goal to get at least two more quilts finished off that pile by the end of the year. Now that my machine's all set for quilting, the incentive is there to get them done before I need to use the machine for anything else! Thanks for reading along and letting me join in the fun!

Thank you for Dawn and Wendy for welcoming me as a contributing blogger. I blog over at Les Quilts. I have been quilting full time since 1998. My grandmother and mom taught me to sew and I used to make all my own clothes. Then hubby and I had 2 boys, now 31 and 29 (but their parents are not getting OLD! right!?!?) LOL
We live in Northwestern Ontario in Canada. We live about 150 miles east of Winnipeg, Manitoba, the continental midpoint of North America, but in Canada.
I work as a Nurse Practitioner, a Registered Nurse, but with more training and education and a licence to do about 95% of what a doctor does in his clinic. I work with 13 physicians and 2 other nurse practitioners. I have been an NP for over 5 years and it is a great job. People are so nice and appreciate everything you do for them!
My local Quilting Guild is having a UFO challenge to promise and then see how many finishes we can complete between our January and June meetings. I have 11 items I promised, so Wish Me Luck! I appreciate being able to share my finishes with you, thinking it will help me get it all done!
Here are a few pictures. They are mostly wall hangings or table covers. Most of them are sandwiched and just need to be quilted and bound. When you look at my blog, you will see I'm great at finishing flimsies, but procrastinate with the quilting part. I don't know what it is, I just do. I don't mind doing the binding, but I just get hung up on the quilting part.
Ok, here we go:

1. This is a little applique wall hanging I made a few years ago, it needs to be sandwiched, machine quilted, bound and embellishing finished. The pattern came from a quilt book, sorry I don't remember the name.

2. This is about 24 x 12 inches. It is a design by Frances Leate of the Quilting Owl blog. Her pattern was in the Australian Quilt and Patchwork magazine around Sept or Oct 2010. The pattern was for hand piecing, but I changed the pattern with France's permission and made it all with machine piecing. This is the second one I made and I'd like to get it quilted and bound, and hopefully keep it for me. My favorite colour is blue.

3. This is about 12 x 12 inches. It is wool appliqued on cotton. I think it is for a cushion.

4. This is another appliqued table topper. I made the flimsy in 2006. I re-hand appliqued it in 2008 when I became much better at applique-ing. Yup, it needs to be sandwiched, quilted and bound too.

5. This is a Christmas Wall Hanging/Lap quilt I made from a panel in 2006 too. I sandwiched it about 1.5 yrs ago! See, I said I procrastinated! I don't remember who designed the panel, but I did purchase it at a quilt store!

6. This is a Welcome Panel I purchased and bordered in, maybe 2007? Yup, sandwiched for about 1.5 yrs when I did the one above. I have started quilting the house, to look like bricks.

7. this is a kit made into a table topper. I think this has been sandwiched at least 1.5 yrs ago. I completed one, gave it away for a gift at a Christmas Party.
Ok, I think I've bored you long enough and confessed enough for one posting! LOL
I'll be back when I get something finished! (or at least quilted!) ;-)))

I've finished a couple of more items, both were started last year:

A felt flower that is also..

a sewing kit. Everything is hand stitched.

This is something I started because I had joined a quilt guild that meets to sew every other week. I can't go right now because I watch my grandson. Hope to start back this summer.

This is pockets that I made from log cabin blocks.

This is a pin cushion that has a bit of storage.

This is a small ironing pad that I made from an old ironing board cover.

I also made a matching mat for my cup.

Finally I can say I finished a top.

Hi I'm Kathleen from Rose Prairie

Quilts and Farm in Oklahoma. I live on over a hundred acres with "the man of the place". Kids are grown and live in other states. But we do have beef cattle and "my girl" (my chickens).

I love to quilt, knit and grow vegetables.

This quilt seemed like it took forever on this one.

Grant cha there was a lot of appliqueing but seeing how it was a commission top for a shop, it took some of the fun out of it for me, felt pressured by time.

This pattern is Heritage Sampler by Lori Smith. This is all I was asked to do, you see there is a border that should be around. One of half-square triangles.

I love to applique and I enjoy stitching on one but I also like to my time at it.

I did a method by using Ricky Tim's paper and stitching it on the machine. I did it that way so I would give it the look of needle turn. I have a tutorial on my blog if you would like learn this method. Go here

I hope to have another top done this week. If I do I'll be back with another show and tell.

I started this last year a gift for my Dad for his birthday this year. I finished it on Friday night and gave it to him yesterday for his birthday. He just loved it

2012 UFO No.1

I did a class a couple of years ago to make this bag. It has lots of techniques and the idea was to learn when and where to use the different Floriani stabilizers. In the class all of the various pieces were prepared but not fully put together. The bag took much longer to make than the one day class run, so there was quite a bit to construct at home. That is usually not a problem, but the directions accompanying this pattern were very difficult to understand. So….. the bag got packed into a container for “another day”.
Last week that day came and I pulled it out, read through the instructions, thought about it, tried a few things, then got stuck into it. Needless to say, it eventually turned into a completed bag.

It is a beautiful bag, a really useful size with zippered pockets on the outside and pockets inside as well.

When I learn a new technique I like to try a 'smallish' project... sadly these then tend to get cast off into the 'one day' UFO box....

This folder cover was on my UFO list from last year and is # 25 on my UFO list this year

but when I opened the box properly I found more !!

there was this piece which I made when I was learning some embroidery stitches....

and this was a piece made learning needleturn applique ...

..... and another needleturn applique piece using freezer paper.....

I was so proud of my 'hidden' threads and 'tiny' stitches!!!!!!

they are definitely easier done on a small scale...

but I think I love my hot pot mat the best....

I'm glad I didn't throw my practice pieces away... it's great to look back and see where I have improved... but I also found out those not terribly good stitches and all the mistakes are pretty well hidden once it is all made up.

First Finish for 2012

My first finish for 2012 and for the 'Sew its Finished' challenge. I joined last year and made my list ( a shocking list that was) then the wheels seem to fall off the cart and I didn't finish anything. Felt very depressed about this. So I was glad to hear that the challenge is continuing this year and I have been bitten by some sort of finish it off bug this year and have been working mainly on finishing of my looooooooooooooooooooong list of UFO's. This table centre is my first finish I only had to sew the binding down to complete it and I can't believe how long it has taken me to do it. I'm not sure how old this UFO is I think I would have done the stitchery at least 5 years ago. A bit ridiculous really. It is a Leanne's House stitchery and the pattern was from an old craft magazine.

I used perle cotton to quilt the top and I really like the chunky look it really suits the style of the quilting. I quilted it by machine and it wasn't too difficult considering the thickness of the thread.
I would only use a simple quilting pattern for this technique though mainly basic straight sewing.

I have another 2 UFOS that I have started on a table runner prepped ready for quilting and am in the process of piecing/sewing together another table runner. They both contain stitchery as well.
Seems like i can manage to get the stitching done but when it comes to putting it together it ends up in the UFO pile.

I hope this motivation to finally tackle this mammoth task keeps on going.

Quilt Top Finished

Hello I'm Carol from Carol's Crafty Creations. I finally finished this quilt top that I started several months ago. All I needed to do to finish the quilt top was add my border. Before I could do that I needed to order more of the border fabric which I'm happy I was able to find on-line. This quilt pattern is called Lake Cabin from the book Scrap-Basket Sensations. I really like this fabric Rural Jardin by French General. I'm thinking I will do line quilting on this quilt. I'll let you know when I get the quilting done but for now I'm just happy to have the quilt top finally done.

Hi, my name's Danette and this is my first post on Sew It's Finished. I LOVE starting new projects....looking at new patterns, fabrics, samples...learning new techniques, stitches, finishing...but I have this problem of finishing things. I even have a hand pieced quilt top from the 80's that needs to be quilted and bound (my oldest UFO on my list). I'll post my list of UFO's by Friday on my blog QuiltingChemist am I suppose to post my list here too? Please let me know.

Well I finally did it. I counted all my "Work In Progress" {WIP}
I must admit I was really scared that I would be in the vicinity of 30 +.
I started most of these when I owned the patchwork shop. Now I am no longer there I should have enough time to finish them all. Also then start on my "Projects in Waiting" {PIW}
So imagine my surprise when I found out there was ONLY 14.

I go to a sewing group every Tuesday so I plan to take a project each week. I have also been asked to join a sewing group, by a customer from the shop, which is every First & Second Monday of the month. Literally 1 min away from my house.

Sew with any luck I will get these finished and some of my PIW sewn and FINISHED.

My name is Karen and I have a fabric addiction. And I start WAY more projects than I finish.

Whew! That's over! I've been trying to catch up on all your stories, and mine is similar. I really want to finish some old UFO's and I dream of being ALL caught up. It will never happen of course, but I can dream. :)

Actually, I have a Quilt Studio and teach quilting, so am constantly creating new samples and a lot of them are based on what I want to do. I justify the non finishes because it's easier to hang flimsies. But I really need to work on getting them done and not have a closet full of flimsies to quilt and a stack of project boxes. Which is why I'm here. To be publicly accountable. Thank you for helping me with my problem.

I will post my Top 12 UFO's I'd like to finish this year in my blog, www.passionatequilter.blogspot.com unless I need to do it here?

I'd like to be brave and do Top 12 UFO's (quilt tops not finished) and Top 12 Flimsies (quilt tops not quilted). I had to divide my list into UFO's and Flimsies just so the list wouldn't be so long, ya know? Does anyone else do that? I also have H(u)SY's (haven't started yet) projects. I figure it's not really fair to list them as a UFO if I haven't even started it yet, because I could change my mind and no fabric was harmed in the meantime. I think some of you know what I mean! LOL

Anyway, great to be here and look to encourage others and be encouraged on our quests to be FINISHERS!

What I've been up to this year!

Hello everyone,

Thought I would let you know what I've been up to the last week or so. It's been a bit crazy but thought I would try and get a couple of things finished this month.

This is a stitchery that I started last year and the colors match my kitchen. This is a decorative pot holder.

This is the front of my purse. I started the pieces last summer. I finished it today. I'm loving the colors and it's just the right size.

There are 2 end pockets. Both have pleated bottoms and elastic on the top. I put half a hexie on the top of the pocket.

This is the other side. The flap was easy and I used a magnetic snap for the first time. I think it was very easy to put in and it works great.

This is the two pockets in front of the purse. There are also 2 large pockets inside. Roomy!

This is a mini quilt I started years ago. All that needed to be done was to put the binding on. I pieced it together using some of the same fabric from the top. One corner didn't work out right but other wise, I love it.

A shattered finish…..

My weekend was spent watching videos whilst it rained outside and stitching on the binding to finish my “Pretty in Pink” Shattered Tiles Quilt. It was started in March, 2010 at a workshop which you can read more about here and here.

3 more finishes - woohooooo

2nd finish for this year is this bag for my daughter, Haylee. The bag is made from 8 caring hearts that Our craft forum girls nominated Haylee for when she went to Kenya in 2008 on a mission awareness trip. She was away on the weeke end & my plan was to have it ready when she got back, I didn't quite make that, so I finished it while she was at Church and surprised her when she got home. She had no idea and had even forgotten about the hearts.

3rd finish is the Fig & plum tablerunner. I just had to finish the binding on this one. Finished it late last night.

Fourth finish were these fibre bookmarks that I sell at work. I just had to finsh the edges, stamp the back and put a tassle on each one. I do have more book marks in varying stages of completion but these are all we need for now.

I am still in the process of finalising my list and have both knitting projects and sewing projects to work on. I have already listed my knitting projects which can be read about here.

I have a number of sewing projects...

New Zealand Quilt - some cross stitch to do, and then join the blocks together, and then finish off.

A green jelly roll quilt - top finished, needs wadding, backing and quilting.

Friendship block...decide what to turn it into.

Another Jelly roll quilt - finish blocks, sew together, wadding, backing and quilting

A couple of small tops to decide what to turn them into.

A baby quilt - not actually started yet, but would like to get it made preferably before I go to NZ so I can take it with me to post to my friend. Yikes!

My name is Cheryl. My blog is Polka Dots and Rick Rack, and I am so excited to be joining your group. I have posted before than I am a serial starter…..just love starting new things, then tucking them away, so this absolutely is the place for me to be.
Here is some of what I would like to tackle. In the upper left corner there is a string quilt, that has 5 blocks done out of Celebrate Spring; upper right, a Fat Quarter Shop Designer BOM that just needs the outer border; bottom left corner, a Moda pattern using Prairie Paisley…..lots of blocks done and then I found a mistake I had made in several blocks, so it got put aside and some reverse sewing needs to happen; lower right corner, my Cherry Quilt that I love, love….a few more Cherry blocks to buttonhole and then put the rows together.

Then there’s this….a pile of bindings!! I have a binding business and I can get customer quilts done lickity split, but mine just seem to get tucked away!!
On a positive note I do have a finish for this year already. In November at quilt camp I started this Full House pillow ….and I am happy to report that I actually finished it the first week of 2012!
Thanks Wendy for the warm welcome and I look forward to visiting and seeing what everyone else has going on.

I have not made a list before but just kept a count of my UFO's in my head.
1)- I have a Row by Row quilt top to finish, I have sewn the rows together and now I need to sandwich it with batting and backing and then quilt it.
2)- Also on my list is the little stitchery I did called Noahs Ark with Lynette Anderson. I have done them all and sewn them together but need to finish it off with backing and batting. I am ashamed to say I started this in 2009.

3)- I have done 12 of the Breast Of Friends blocks and really need to do the other 2 and get them all sewn together and quilted etc. This has been going on since 2009 also.

4)- A Tisket A Tasket.....6 blocks done and 6 to go. Gee....I dont know when I am going to get this one done...I will be honest with you all. I have lost total interest in it. This has been going on since 2009 too.

5)- I am not too sure if there is 5 but no doubt there will be.

So thats it from me and I hope to get to these this year some time. Last year and this year are the years for finishing UFO's for me.

I look forward to seeing everyone elses finishes.

Dawn and I have been talking a lot lately about how we can make “Sew It’s Finished” even better than it is now!!!!

Sooooo……we have a very big surprise for all of you……..which I can’t tell you about now, or it wouldn’t be a surprise now, would it!!!!!

Suffice to say, you SHOULD all try and post a UFO finish by the end of the month!
