A finish for 2013 ....SKOW

Hi Everyone.....
I havent posted in here for quite awhile
but finally I have finished my quilt
My Favourite Things by Annie Downs
from her book Some Kind Of Wonderful.
It has 24 blocks with applique and stitching on them and I loved doing them.
I machine quilted it by doing shadow quilting around the blocks and appliques.

Hugs to all

Sewing for swaps

I have spent my time this week sewing my swap obligations, for my table runner swap.  As the organiser  of this swap I had a odd number so was paired with Jan and Maria so they get one each .
The pattern that I used was by Dawn, and was in our gift bags at the lets get stitched Adelaide quilting retreat that I attended last month.  The pattern allows you to make two runners from one charm pack, I changed the second one slightly adding a boxed border on each end ( right side)
.

The charm pack is in lovely rich autumn tones of greens, oranges and browns with some lovely teal as well.  I think its a nice colour scheme as we are in autumn now.  I also received this charm pack at the Lets get stitched retreat.

Here is a couple of individual photos of each runner.

Meet my new needle case

This is another of THOSE finishes - just a few stitches here and there to take it from the UFO pile to sitting proudly in use.  I cant even remember how long ago I started this but it would be anywhere up to 10 years ago.  All that was needed was to sew in the scissor pocket, and the button and loop on the front.  I remember I had made the scissor pocket "back then" and had done as per the pattern -blanketstitch around the edges.  It was done in the same gorgeous silk fabric as the outside, but it was very wonky looking so I discarded it.  This scissor pocket is very plain by comparison but is does the job so that is all that matters.

This one was not even on my long UFO list for the year.  I found it when tidying the shelves in my sewing room.

Finishes 5 & 6

I'm still making things from a mystery box of fabric I bought 3 years ago. There were enough 6.5" flannel squares cut to make two baby/toddler blankies with a few extra squares left over. I stitched the tops together at least 2 years ago and there they sat. They both measure 36" x 42" . I backed them with flannel but skipped the batting. I wanted something flexible to wrap around a baby and also a bit lighter for a toddler to drag around. No binding, I just stitched and flipped and then added some straight line quilting to hold them together.

I haven't worked with flannels much but I find that I really like how soft and snuggly they are.

A couple more done.....

In 2011 I made my youngest daughter her quilt in chocolate colours...

It was made with quite big Disappearing 9 patch blocks......

As there were a couple of blocks extra I used these to practice how I wanted to do the quilting and these quilted blocks have been languishing in the back of my cupboard since then....

this pictures shows the back of the quilted panels

I still had a nice piece of the backing of the quilt... a charcoal tone on tone in flannel so I used that to make up some pillow slip style backs for the blocks....

Now youngest daughter has a couple of matching cushion covers for her quilt....

A couple more UFO finishes for me.... yippee... the number is going down!!

Righto, Gotto Go... these colours have got me thinking about chocolate..... hmmmmm

April 3 and I have a finish?? Wow!?!?!

This is one of those finishes that you just want to slap your forehead and say Durrh - why did you wait to do that??

Back in October my family visited "The Dish" in Parkes NSW as part of our school holiday excursion.

While we were there we found these adorable shirts with aliens on them and both my boys wanted one.

Unfortunately for my 10 year old, he does not fit 'kid' clothes anymore, so I promised him I would cut up his alien shirt and stitch it onto a shirt that did fit properly.

So after 5 months of sitting on the table I cut, I sewed, I finished.
(And it took only 5 MINUTES, only 5 minutes, arrrgh)

I have one EXCITED son with a unique shirt.
Durrh - why did I wait so long to do finish this??

March Count is Complete.....

and again you continue to amaze me!!!!
25 ladies had finishes for March with a total of .....wait for it.........

SIXTY-ONE  (yep, that's 6-1)  FINISHES!!!!!!!

blowing me away.....every month...you gals are IN-CRED-I-BLE!!!!
such inspiration....
I've even got a finish for April.....which I must get around to posting about!!! LOL
I've counted right up to Kathleen's post on April 1 (our time), only because it was still March in the US of A.....lucky!!!!!!!!!

and  had a giggle with Cathy's post following Kathleen's, only because my hubby has been reminding me to take his 'new' work jeans hems up since last year and now he's resorted to putting them on the end of the couch to remind me to take them up for him.   Each day they've been moved a step closer and closer to my sewing machine....do you think he's trying to give me a 'subtle' hint???

I'm sorry Susan, I only saw your comment after I was doing the count......missed this one...must've slipped through the cracks, but there ya go.....sixty one finishes for March....that's about 2 a day!!!!

Which also means
our total tally is now  184 finishes to date for 2013
leaving 315 to reach our target of 500 for 2013
that means 35/ month to reach our goal which we're eeeeasily achieving so far!

and to boost you girls even more......that means were over 1/3 of the way to achieving our target......and that also means we are well above target!  wheeeeeeeeeeee........

YOU GO GIRLS!!!!!!!

So ....I will be sending out freebies to those 21 lucky ladies.......(which I will do shortly).......but as a sneaky peek....here it is.......

Daffodils for our March Birthdays......hope you like it!

I'm off to post out these designs....and to create some new ones!!!
Keep on Stitching....
