Coin Quilt

This baby coin quilt is my first finish of 2014 and most likely my oldest UFO. It is probably 5-6 years old? Not very old for some quilters but I haven't been quilting for very long either.

When I first saw a coin quilt I fell in love with them. A great way to showcase each fabric without having to have yard pieces. I've also found out they are a great way to use up some scraps too. I did a little straight line quilting and then decided to free motion some flowers into the white spaces. It has been a few months since I did any free motion quilting and I sure did feel a bit rusty. I love the way a quilt gets all wrinkly after a run through the washer and dryer.

We had a very windy and cold day here again. The wind was very helpful in showing the back of the quilt. It's a nice blue fabric with little houses all over it.

Robin L. - 1 finish for 2014

January......

... well I have sorted all my UFO's.... and I am thoroughly embarrassed to discover how many I have.... I had a lovely long list of finishes last year... but it seems I had an even longer list of started and put in the cupboards!!!!

I like to pull out my projects and sort them at the beginning of the year.. I photograph them and add them to a page on my blog (you can see them HERE if you are interested... but please don't judge me!!) then put them into separate boxes or bags and start working through them...   There is plenty of choice for me this year!!!

Anyway... I like to make a good start so I chose a couple of projects that didn't need too much to do to finish them off......

First up is this wallhanging which just needed tags made and sewn to the top to finish it off....

... and these pot mats which just needed a backing added and sewn round the edge....

these are both Christmas items as you can see... so I have made a start to my Christmas list!!!!

Righto, Gotto Go.... as I said there are lots more to choose from!!!

First 2014 finish

This is one UFO that I am pleased to tick of my list as its been in my UFO pile since 2011.

It started as a BOM, and is meant to be a 9 block quilt, but I made one of the blocks off centre and didn't have any fabric to do another, so it got put away.

Then I thought, why not make a wall hanging with 3 blocks, a lap rug with 4 blocks and 2 cushions with the remaining blocks, using the off centre block for a cushion.

So here is stage one of that UFO, the wall hanging.  The design is of course by Michelle Hill and the quilt is the Adelaide floral sampler.

please bear with us…..

I’m in the process of finalising the “Year of  Blooms” pattern now and finished quilting it yesterday….so I guess you could say it was my first UFO finish of the year!!!!!?????

015 (Medium)1

026 (Medium)

Once I have the pattern all written up (which should be today or tomorrow if there are no interruptions………listening, family?????), I will get it out to those of you with December finishes, along with the December block!

021 (Medium)

Keep up the good work with all the finishes…  if you’re anything like me, your UFO pile is growing instead of shrinking…..*eek*

We’re onto a new year so we’ll be offering a new gift each month for those of you with finishes…..but you’ll just have to wait and see what that one is!!!!

In the meantime….

Happy 2014

No finishes, but wanted to wish you all a Happy 2014.  I realize I lost my speed a few months back, with my daughters wedding and the holidays, but I am very grateful for what I did finish and for this wonderful group Wendy and Dawn created.  Happy, happy to you all!

Last finishes for 2013

I am posting this on Tuesday December the 31st at 9:45 AM but the header says January 1st.  ????

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to do something.  I finally got the binding on these last three quilts so I could post them as 2013 finishes.

This first one is called Squash Blossoms and is from a pattern by Fig Tree Quilts.  It 63” x 77”.  The appliqué was stitched on the machine.

This one is Reflections of Kyoto from Connecting Threads.  It was an end of the year sale kit in I believe 2011.

I have no idea what this one is called because I can’t seem to find the pattern I used.  I know it was from the Stitch ’N Sisters club led by Pat Wys and was from a magazine but that's about all I seem to remember.

Thanks Dawn and Wendy for all the encouragement throughout the year and a Happy New Year to everyone.
