Late as usual - but 3 small finishes to add

Hello happy stitchers

Sorry I'm late adding my finishes again - I've just got home from 4 day quilters' retreat at beautiful Mannum, right beside Murray River.  Perfect weather, company and an opportunity to finish long overdue projects.

First item was a challenge begun in 2006, to choose a picture in a magazine, then re-create in fabric, including one piece of fabric we were given by our group co-ordinator.  I used it to make the water feature/urn.  We were required to machine stitch everything, which I found very difficult.  It got put away when I found lots of raw edges that I'd missed the first time round ... but, at last it is completed.

Second is a cross-stitched platypus that I did years ago when my eyesight was reasonable, but I never got round to framing it.  Now it is ready to hang, along with a complementary panel of Australian animals, that included a platypus, and I used the same 'watery' fabric for both projects.   This 3rd project has only waited 5 years for attention!

So pleased these are done, and I made good progress on 2 more projects that have been waiting for me for 3 or 4 years, so hopefully there'll be more to reveal next month.
Cheers, Liz

2 Finishes for August & Finish 11 & 12 for 2013

Two finishes for August both table runners.

First is another left over rowXrow round robin from 2006.  A very simple turned through table runner as I did not have anything suitable for the binding.

second table runner is made form strip left over form a queen size quilt made at least 5 years ago (still waiting to be quilted).  I sewed the strips into the top a few weeks ago and tonight I quilted and bound it using the backing as binding and a machine stitch.  This is now a swap gift, we have decided to swap UFO's.

August Finish from Susan

This is not a long standing UFO - for a change.

I had been wanting to do one of Leanne Beasley's quilt patterns for a while but I was able to get my hands on the pattern for this one - Journey of a Quilter.
In August 2011 I was able to do a big shop hop in Sydney when I went down for a visit and found a lovely collection of 30cm pieces of William Morris fabrics.  Then in another shop I saw some Threadworx threads in the perfect colours   and in yet another shop I picked up quite a few creams and beiges.

As soon as I got back I started tracing and stitching.

Now its done.  I had it quilted.  I love it. It will go on the only wall left in my Sewing room  (when I can get "someone" to put the necessary bits up on the wall).

 How true are these words??

Finally a finish

I started my Scrappy Cheddar Squares quilt in March of 2012 and finally managed to get the binding on it this week.  I used wool batting in this quilt and I really like the way it makes the feathers stand out.
This quilt is made up of 2176 two inch squares sashed with two inch cheddar strips and two inch cornerstones.
The blocks are 11 inches unfinished.
If you would like to read more about how I made Scrappy Cheddar you can go here.

I am enjoying reading about everyones UFO finishes.
Happy Stitching,
Nancy

Two More Finishes...

Golly, I am on a roll here!
I have had this flannelette fabric sitting in my Overload for a couple of years now, purchased for $2 a metre (receipt still in the bag!!), bought with the intention of making things for nieces or nephews, but never happened...
I made two very simple baby blankets, one is about 110cm square, and the other is about 90cm x 110cm. As they both look similar, I'm not going to post two pics, LOL
I have no idea what to do with them now... might give them to my Mum as she seems often to be looking for a baby gift for someone...
Isn't the print so sweet?!

Happiness is….

This has been a loooong time coming and so Happiness is……….??!!!

188 (Medium)

This wall hanging started out as some lucky purchases I stumbled upon last year at my local charity store.  I had  seen some mini kits for each of the stitcheries and thought, I can’t live without these at $1 each, so of course, they came home with me to live in the K.A.R.T.S drawer, forever and ever, AMEN!

012 (Medium)

But, I found my will, and started stitching them up, one by one, during the year.

014 (Medium)

and they were coming out pretty nicely, which spurred me on….

Easy Street .... Finished

I am probably the last one to finish my Easy Street - a quiltalong from last winter with Bonnie Hunter.  I loved the colors from the moment I saw them and knew that I had to join in with everyone else.  I still love it and hope to add some pillow shams and use it on the bed in the guest room.

A Long Overdue Finish...

This very pretty cross stitch bookmark has languished in my box of unfinished items for well over a year now, more like two years I reckon... I completed the cross stitch but couldn't decide how to finish it. I finally had an idea on what I wanted to do to finish it and have it ready for giving... so in the end it took me about 20 minutes of cutting & sewing to achieve this little finish...
I love this design & am a bit sad I didn't keep a copy of the chart to make another for myself.
Crazy isn't it, how long some things sit unfinished?!
I am hoping to have a couple more finishes for this month too, make up for not doing so well in the last couple of months.

A bunch of little finishes.....

Sometimes it is the little things to finish that I dawdle on.... these are some of them and they didn't take long at all... it made me wonder why I left them for so long!

they really just needed the ribbons and buttons to finish them off....

done now... and off into the gifties box....

# 34-37 ....

Christmas table runner

My latest finish is a Christmas Table runner.  This was another Sewing Club project which didnt get finished -  it seems that the Christmas projects started at Sewing Club always end up in the UFO pile.  Must be something to do with the busyness of that time of year.  This one I think was started 4 years ago.  The top was finished, so it needed to be quilted and bound.

A 10 year old project finally done!

This has been a work in progress for FAR too long! It has been a series of indecisions all along the way. I started it clear back in 2002! YIKES!

My long arm had been down for 3 months and put me far behind. I was able to do smaller projects while waiting. And now she is back and I finished 10 quilts on there.  My Quilt Show is this Saturday, so I don't know if I will have time to get them posted until after the show.  But I did want to share this one.

This was designed my me, EPP by me, pieced by me and hand quilted by my Amish friend, Mary and her daughter and their 'hen party' friends!  In 3 weeks!

Grandma's Irish Chain

I decided to do a GIANT hexie flower on the back...

Grandma's Irish Chain back

and just because I wanted to try 1/4" hexies...

Grandma's Irish Chain close up

I hope to post the other quilts next week. I finally feel productive again!  But sure have a sore back now!   :)

They are done!

Hi everyone!  Remember the blog hop I was in?  I had two quilts I had quilted and just needed to do the binding?  THEY. ARE. DONE!  Yeah!

I didn't think I would ever get them done.  first is the shepherd quilt.  I needed to give the sheep eyes and do the binding.  All done!

That's Miss Priss and Diesel checking out the quilt.  I tried several times to take a picture without them.  the cats would not cooperate........

This is Winter Wonderland #2.  It's called that because this is the 2nd quilt with the same name - different pattern.

I was so excited, because I used minkee for the back!  all I can say?  Oh boy!!!  I was in the car, traveling while binding the quilt.  No, I wasn't driving.  Bruce was driving so the car was extra cold.  it felt very nice to have that quilt on me.  The quilt is heavy, because it has batting in it also.  the back is so incredibly soft.  I will definitely do this again.

this makes # 52 and 53.  12 1/2 yards busted.  I am a happy girl.  only a gazillion more UFOs to go!  LOL

hugs

Lorene

Finally another finish.....

I started these heart stitcheries in 2011 and now I have finally made them into a wall hanging.....so glad I have another UFO out of the cupboard.

Organised Chaos #33

Organised Chaos is what I have called this little quilt....

It's not very big (36" x 29") and was my adventure into paper piecing - there are 484 pieces in those 20 blocks!!

I played with the quilting... there is a lot so the quilt is quite stiff... perfect for a topper of something....

Thanks again to Wendy and Dawn for this blog and keeping me motivated to get them finished by those sweet designs we get from Wendy.....

Pink Liquorice

I have finished stitching on this jelly roll quilt which I have named pink liquorice.

It is make with the shades of black jelly roll, along with some pink and white from my stash.  Simple to make with only two blocks used in the design.  Sometimes the simpler quilts can be the most striking.

I also got to practice my feathers on the quilting of this one.

Another one to tick of the UFO list....
