Small finish for October and 15th for 2013

I had this block sitting in my pile of block to make something with when I saw a photo of a heat pad that a friend had made and I then knew what this lone little block needed to be made into. I originally cut the background  shape for a table runner but somehow cut this one the wrong size so I put it aside for another day as I can't throw fabric away -it's an illness, I can't help it. Then I made a quilt with this flower and decided to add one to the left over octagon and then it sat in a plastic bag for 3 years.  I added two layers of insulbrite, quilted it with diagonal lines coming from the flowers and bound it in a coordinating fabric form the Woodlands Bloom range.  I made the mistake of not pinning it enough and it moved hence the flower not being central. Despite that I think it looks great and will use it quite often.

September finishes - 13 & 14 for 2013

Two finishes for this month.  The first is a long term  UFo - a round robin I ran on the craft forum in 2007 I think.  I sewed the blocks to the embroidery then quilted it, will be used as a table topper for our dining table.  Finished last Friday but have been flat chat and this was my first chance to post in here.

 This felt bunting is a relatively new UFO - only from last year. was originally for fundraiser & just needed assembling.  Adult daughter will be taking this to her preschool as they love to have pretty things hanging around.

 

I am getting through my thirty plus UF's that I had at the beginning of the year and I have not started a project as yet that I have not completed....

2 Finishes for August & Finish 11 & 12 for 2013

Two finishes for August both table runners.

 

First is another left over rowXrow round robin from 2006.  A very simple turned through table runner as I did not have anything suitable for the binding.

second table runner is made form strip left over form a queen size quilt made at least 5 years ago (still waiting to be quilted).  I sewed the strips into the top a few weeks ago and tonight I quilted and bound it using the backing as binding and a machine stitch.  This is now a swap gift, we have decided to swap UFO's.

 

Just scraped in with my 10th finish

Table runner made from a left over row form the Row X Row round robin swap I was part of in 2006. This row was made by Ronnie. I quilted it last month and put the last stitch in the binding at 10pm last night....

9th Finish for this year, 1st for June

 My first UFO finish for June is a Janelle Wind Frilly Dilly bag without the frills.  I love the shape of the bag but didn't another frilly bag, so I decided to raw edge applique a flower on the front.  This has been waiting to be finished for over 2 years.  So pleased to have the Friday night sewing with friends group to encourage me to get some sewing done.

 

May's finish and my 8th for this year

This wallhanging started it 's life 7 years ago as a rowXrow round robin in the craft forum.  I made the first row - log cabins and then sent it around Australia for 8 other wonderful ladies to make a row for it. The rows sat in a box for quite a few years as i tried to work out how best to sew them together.  2 years ago I finally bit the bullet and sewed 6 of the rows together, the other three are waiting to be made into smaller projects.

I quilted it last month and finally finished hand sewing the binding on a few weeks ago.....

 

Very excited to have one of the tops that have been waiting to be finished done.....

 

Now what UFO to tackle now....

6th & 7th Finish

I managed to finish two more UFO's in April and made a good dent in another. This was mainly due to the starting of a weekly Friday night sewing group.  I had these finished last week but have not had time to post this b4 now.....

 

 These handtowels are the last that had been cut out and wanting to be finished since last October.  two of these are heading to my forum friend Shirley.  She made me a few dish towels and i was making her handtowels in return.

 

I have had this Authentic charm pack for many years and last year finally planned to make it into this tablerunner, using half triangle squares and sashing.  When I started to sew the 1/2 triangle squares into rows I realised I had enough to make two tablerunners.  The other tablerunner will be made in the near future as a gift or maybe even a swap.

 

 

And finally a sneak preview of a UFO that has been 7 years in the making, a Row X Row wall hanging.  I finally quilted it and am on the tail end of hand stitching the binding down.  I should have it finished in the next few days so stand by for the finished wall hanging........

5th finish for 2013

I am so determined to get at least one UFO finished each month this year that I have tried to come up with a bit of a plan to get things done. Firstly the big UFO to be finished this year WILL be Val Laird's "Consider the Lilies" wall hanging. All the blocks were made up at the beginning of last year with one blocks hand sewing finished and the second started by the end of the year. Well I have now completed the second blocks embroidery and will commence on the third shortly. Stayed tuned.......

I love table runners and I have several table runners in various stages of completeness in little baggies these are the next thing to mark off the list. So with that in mind a grabbed on bag the other day which had enough in it for two long table runners (can't remember why). This is the first of those table runners  using a quilt as you go method, fabric is basic Grey's "Sultry" by Moda (mmmmm love Basic Grey) jelly Roll (left over from teapot cosies which are still to be completed..
 

The rest of the fabric in that bag I have now been sewn together Jelly roll race style,I will add vertical borders to make it wide enough then quilt and bind it and another table runner/UFO will be done.

But first I will complete 2 more UFO hand towels which have now been earmarked as a personal swap.

After that I have another table runner, that I have designed myself, to complete using an Authentic by Sweetwater charm pack.

Then I will only have one more table runner to complete (made with caring hearts) and that UFO box will be done and dusted for this year.  There are only 4 more boxes to work my way through (bags, cushions, kitchen projects, completed blocks)  as well as a few small baskets of UFO's that haven't been sorted yet and 5 quilt tops still to be quilted.


That's do-able isn't it.........

A few more small finishes - my 3rd & 4th

I have quite a few of these hand towels cut out for gifts last year but ran out of time, soooo I am slowly making my way through them, this one is wining its way over to Perth as part of a care package.

  And below is another 10 book marks for work.

!st and 2nd finish

Well I have made a start on my UFO's.

 

This table runner has been waiting to be finished for around 18 months.  The blocks were made I just needed to sew it together, quilt and bind it.  I kept the quilting simple and it only took me around 2 2/3 hours to complete.

 

3 hand towels that just needed a little finishing.  The pink one only needed the button hole sewn and the button sewn on. The brown tops were sewn and the towels were gathered/pleated they just needed to be sewn together.

This is just the start of the 8 hand towels I have planned, most are just cut out but a few tops have been sewn together but not attached to the towels.

 

Right now I am working on the arm chair covers that have been in the making for about 5 years, which is ridiculous as all I had to do was sew a backing on the already cut fabric form when we had the lounges covered.  I also have a wall hanging sandwiched together that I hope to quilt in the next week or so.

Gails 7th finish

Its been a long time since I have posted. Life has thrown me several curve balls and I just havent had time to sew. But I have been unwell over the last few days and haven't been able to do anything else sooooooooooooo I grabbed out a UFO and finished it. I started putting this framed this framed hexi table runner together in March. Each hexi was made for me in a swap from my friends over at Our Craft forum quite a few years ago and has been waiting very patiently to start its life as a table runner. 

Another two finishes

last week i finished these 3 hand towels that have been half made for around 2 years. The toppers were made just needed to have the towels added. These make my 5th finish.

My 6th finish and the biggest so far is my Iowa Girl tablecloth that I started over 5 years ago. The top was completed in the year it was started but I put it aside as I could not afford to have it professionally quilted & I knew it needed more than ditch quilting or the very poor stippling I have since tried. So this year I have joined SewCalGals FMQ challenge to help me get my confidence up with quilting. January's tut was free flowing flowers. Mine are all over the place and not very even but i had a go and it got another UFO happening. I finished the binding last night while watching a movie with my daughter.

3 more finishes - woohooooo

2nd finish for this year is this bag for my daughter, Haylee. The bag is made from 8 caring hearts that Our craft forum girls nominated Haylee for when she went to Kenya in 2008 on a mission awareness trip. She was away on the weeke end & my plan was to have it ready when she got back, I didn't quite make that, so I finished it while she was at Church and surprised her when she got home. She had no idea and had even forgotten about the hearts.








3rd finish is the Fig & plum tablerunner. I just had to finish the binding on this one. Finished it late last night.

Fourth finish were these fibre bookmarks that I sell at work. I just had to finsh the edges, stamp the back and put a tassle on each one. I do have more book marks in varying stages of completion but these are all we need for now.

My UFO list for 2012

I have completed the sorting out of my sewing room and now I know I had 26 UFO's from last year, one has been completed, so that leaves 25 from last year but them i started another 5 last year and also i have a few incomplete fundraiser projects to be finished for November. Here's a link to my blog rather than repeat what I have just posted. I am also hosting a giveaway of my first finish for the year. I might make a few of my finished giveaway as some of the projects are abandoned gifts or swaps, so are not necessarily my taste. I did borrow someones idea from here & have sorted my projects into boxes of similar type ie bags, table runners.

There are a couple of projects I have not added to the UFo list as they are ongoing projects:- strippy blocks to use use scrap fabric and hexy flowers (one day to make a 1/2 apron like my mum had that her mum made).

First Finish for 2012

Happy new year to all. This is my first UFO finish for 2012 & I hope that this year I will get through the other 19 UFO's on my list. I joined this site last year but as my sewing room was so disorganised I was never able to get in and get to any project. This year that changes. I am in the process of sorting out my sewing room to make it a place that encourages me to go in & sew. I still have a way to go but I am getting there.

What I have found is a basket of small items in various stages on progress. So I am starting in there & am starting with the items with the least amount of work to finish, I had two table runners that just needed binding, so I finished this table runner at 11.15 last night. It was started 2 years ago, the plan was for it to go into the birthday box. The other table runner has a self binding so the plan is to start the hand sewing tonight, it's a much larger runner that the purple "Violetta" runner so is likely to take me two night to finish. but finish it I will and hope to have a piccy to post on Thursday or Friday.

I am thinking of making one of these runners a giveaway on my blog (the other runner is from the "Fig & plum" range).
