A finish for July

I’ve been battling it out on my sewing machine this week, working on one of my long-standing UFO’s that I just kept postponing for fear of messing up.  (do you do that too….or is it just a ‘me’ thing???)

Finally, finally, finally……this li’l baby has made it past the finish line…….

014 (Medium)

It’s my Market Baguette Bag…a Cinderberry Stitches design by Natalie Lymer and I just love it!   I made a couple of modifications…..magnetic clasps instead of the ties, as I know how frustrated I would become if I had to tie and untie them every time I went into my bag….and they work a treat!

019 (Medium)022 (Medium)

And I also stitched some vertical ‘fold’ lines into the sides, so they folded inwards rather than gaped out as I carried it around.

018 (Medium)

these little birdies are just so ‘tweet’!!!!!

It’s now my ‘go to’ bag when I hit the shops…..and I continue to ask myself…….why oh why did it take me soooo long to finish it!?!

Off to look for more of those ‘scary’ UFOs to get to the finish line!!!  How about you?????

Sugary hugs :O)

3 more finishes - woohooooo

2nd finish for this year is this bag for my daughter, Haylee. The bag is made from 8 caring hearts that Our craft forum girls nominated Haylee for when she went to Kenya in 2008 on a mission awareness trip. She was away on the weeke end & my plan was to have it ready when she got back, I didn't quite make that, so I finished it while she was at Church and surprised her when she got home. She had no idea and had even forgotten about the hearts.

3rd finish is the Fig & plum tablerunner. I just had to finish the binding on this one. Finished it late last night.

Fourth finish were these fibre bookmarks that I sell at work. I just had to finsh the edges, stamp the back and put a tassle on each one. I do have more book marks in varying stages of completion but these are all we need for now.

Finish 8, 9 ,10,11

I can show you some projects I finished since my last post ( and it has been a while).
I finished this Schnibbles Paganini, I used the fabric Pure from Moda.

Second I finished this bag for my SIL. I made this bag out of a leather coat which belonged to my MIL. She passed away four years ago. My SIL couldn't throw away the coat. So she asked me to make a bag out of it and so I did.
It wasn't easy, but I (and SIL) am very happy with the result.

And my last finish is this bag from the book from Amy Butler Style stitches.
I'm back to my sewingmachine to finish something.

These are bagorganizers, they were ordered by a cousin and co-workers. They asked me to make them at least a year ago.

Rosalie Quinlan Bag

A good friend asked me 18 months ago if I could make her this bag.   I immediately started joining the strips, and after getting a few in the wrong order, I threw it aside in disgust.  But, I dragged it out last week and got busy with my unpicker and have finished it up.
This is Rosalie Quinlan's Angel Pin Carry Bag(minus the Angel Pin) from Homespun No 21.  This is the third time I've made this bag and it's pretty simple to put together(once you get past the strips being joined in the wrong order!)   So that's Number Four finished for me.

Keep up the great work girls, we're not too far away from 200 finishes ................  Nicky

Second finish

How long has a WIP got to be stashed away for it to become a UFO? I suppose as long as it is stashed away for a while then it adds up to the UFO list. Back in March, I started a purse for Big Boy. And although I made good progress and it came along quickly, I didn't finish it there and then. I only had the binding and zip to sew on for it to be finish but I didn't. Maybe because I am always slightly nervous when it comes to the zip. Anyway I promised myself that Big Boy would have his purse to buy his Father's Day present at school so I had to finish it this week-end. I got it out last night and finished it before going to bed. And the zip wasn't so difficult to add in the end!

Big Boy was very happy with his new purse when I showed him this morning!

Ready for Market

Always ready to use whatever scraps, pants or fabric is being tossed out, I grabbed a pile of my husbands jeans awhile back he was going to toss and decided I would cut them up for a rag quilt.

Saturday evening however, after another of my flimsy recycled shopping bags ripped, I sat at my trusty machine and made myself a bag to take to the market.

I left all the pockets open so if I am making a quick trip, I can toss my cell phone and wallet in them. On the way home, I can place smaller items like gum, candy, etc. that might get smashed on the bottom.

It took about 15 minutes from start to finish and now I have received 3 offers for people that want one.

It is another UFO completed!

finish no 7

I made another bag. Finish no 7.

I bought this pattern almost two years ago. It's from a norwegian designer AnnaKa. After I bought the fabric it took me one year to finish it. The pattern is written in Norwegian, so I was a little afraid to make it. But the pattern was very easy to follow. So It was a piece of cake to finish the bag.

My Mom made the Matroesjka on her embriodery- sewingmachine.

Hidden Surprise Bag - UFO #15

This little bag is 6" square....

and opens out to this tote

the pocket is reversed in opening out......
(this should have been the outside of the little bag!)

The pattern is from a Handmade magazine and was designed by Ann Dimmer

I'm pleased to have another UFO out the cupboard....
but it a strange thing.... as one leaves another seems to take it's place

finish no.6

I made this Amy Butler bag called blossom. Together with some ladies of a quiltingforum we did a SAL. And finally we finished it. Yippie. It was so much fun sewing this bag, I made it a little bit smaller than the original. It's a freebie and we found it on the Net. I'm not going to post the link, because we have to finish before we can start something new.

I finished UFO 5

I work as a nurse in a hospital and we aren't alowed to wear our uniforms outside the hospital. So my colleague and I needed some big bags to put our workingshoes and uniform in. Some nice bags. But everytime something got in between. But last week I finally finshed them.

This one is mine.

And this one is for my colleague. (You can see two UFO's I have to finish).

Don't we just look nice together?

The finished bag for 2011

This is the first bag I finished this year. I love to make bags and purses, I have a large collection of patterns. There are still a lot of UFB (unfinished bags) and I promised to myself to make at least one bag a month.

This bag is for my cousin, I promised to make her a bag over a year ago. I hope she likes the colors.

I used some imitation leather, someday I want to make a bag of leather.

Have a nice week, I back to my UFO's
