A Christmas Finish

Here is my Christmas Tree Skirt finally finished. Heehee...Just in time for Chrissy this year.
I started this last year and unfortunately with the end of the year getting so busy I never got around to finish it for Chrissy 2012. So now after backing quilting, binding and adding some suffolk puffs & ribbon, I'm pleased to say it is complete.

Sorry about the lighting in the pic, it's very overcast here today.

Purple Sugar Twist

I had meant to put this up when I finished this quilt a few months ago but I gave it to my daughter and forgot to get a finished picture until now, my daughter took one and sent it to me.
As you can see it's an all purple quilt, my oldest daughter loves purple. I had intended to give it to her last year but you know how good intentions go sometimes. But she said she loves it and really that's all that matter.
I have more info on my blog here if you want the pattern, etc.
I hope to get a couple more quilts posted before the end of the year.
I would like to wish all in U.S.
a Happy Thanksgiving

Second finish

How long has a WIP got to be stashed away for it to become a UFO? I suppose as long as it is stashed away for a while then it adds up to the UFO list. Back in March, I started a purse for Big Boy. And although I made good progress and it came along quickly, I didn't finish it there and then. I only had the binding and zip to sew on for it to be finish but I didn't. Maybe because I am always slightly nervous when it comes to the zip. Anyway I promised myself that Big Boy would have his purse to buy his Father's Day present at school so I had to finish it this week-end. I got it out last night and finished it before going to bed. And the zip wasn't so difficult to add in the end!

Big Boy was very happy with his new purse when I showed him this morning!

Another Finished Quilt

Can't believe it!  2 quilts completed in two days!!  This has been the best little set of stitcheries to do.  I was lucky that I had lots of waiting times when I was in the process of stitching - the quilt itself was quite quick and easy to achieve.  All I have left to do is label it.  Hanging pocket is in - it's ready for Christmas.  I'd love to do another - maybe in greens or blues?

Finish # 2

Hi there, I'm very happy to share my second Sew It's Finished finish.  I finally got this little runner quilted and bound yesterday.  It is Skinny Verna made in the beautiful Martinque fabric by 3 Sisters.  I love this fabric, and am thrilled to have actually finished something with it.

I have a very long list of WIP's to tackle, but it still feels good to cross one off!

Thanks for looking.....happy stitching........Nicky

4 Quilt Tops Done

Thank you to Wendy for inviting me to participate in this blog. I just wanted to show you all that this week, I have finished 4 baby quilts for little ones that survived the tornadoes of Alabama (United States) and their families did not.

Having this blog on UFO's helps me to complete my quilts and get rid of some of my stash as I feel accountable to all of you who are working so hard to complete your UFO's.

Simply put, this is a great support group for all of us quilters who say we never have the time to finish anything.

I have found a new home.

If anyone wants to stop by my home blog check out the Quilting Ranny at:

A small finish but a finish is a finish

This project has been hidden in the back of the cupboard for some time until a friend was talking about cafe aprons. I'd remembered that I had some unmade aprons in the cupboard.
(Sorry the black was very hard to photograph)
So I pulled them out and got one finished. There are still some others to finish but that will have to wait 'til next weekend.

My friend will be so pleased as she can not find any around town. Now to deliver it to her.
ps. Girls I've had a computer crash and have lost your email address to let you know I've finished a project... could you email me back on flyoung at tpg dot com dot au....

The finished bag for 2011

This is the first bag I finished this year. I love to make bags and purses, I have a large collection of patterns. There are still a lot of UFB (unfinished bags) and I promised to myself to make at least one bag a month.

This bag is for my cousin, I promised to make her a bag over a year ago. I hope she likes the colors.

I used some imitation leather, someday I want to make a bag of leather.

Have a nice week, I back to my UFO's

My second finish

I am proud to say I have my second finish for this year , this little wall hanging is the result of a round robin I took part in in 2008 and my theme was "Some of My favorite Things" .My friends did a great job and I love each and every row , the top row I did myself as I love to hang out clothes , the aprons are perfect as I love to bake and cook, the dear little sewing room is of course my favorite room in the house ,the spools , well we can't sew without them , the redwork has everything I love , cats , teapots, plants and my house and then the books , well I also love to read .It has taken a few years to complete but I sure am pleased .

TWO FINISHES... WOOOO HOOOO !

ABOVE:  here are my first two 'finishes' for the year.
I started the STAR Quilt way back at the beginning of 2008, and now my 2nd son has it finally.
The Heart Quilt I started in 2009.. and my 3rd son now has it.
It's such a relief to get them done!

BACKGROUND ON ME:  I have a daily blog... where I yabber on about anything and everything... including weight loss, family, sewing.... well hell,  anything really!  I started sewing about 3 years ago... and realised I LOVED IT... so bought my first really good machine and have not looked back.

I love sewing brights... I'm not a 'subdued' sorta person!  lol    I am not that good at quilting... I tend to just do long, wriggly lines on my quilts.... I'm scared to try anything else!  My machine does 'free motion' sewing, but I am crap at doing it!
My machine was 'the machine from hell' for a year... constantly back in the shop due to jamming issues, but it seems to have settled down now, thankfully.  I still don't trust it that much...*sigh*

So, if you want, pop over to say 'Hi' on my daily blog!

Cushion Finished.

Back in October last year, I started the first block of the Breast of Friends quilt. I wasn't happy with my quality of embroidery, so I started a new block and this one hung on the wall.

It just stared at me and mocked me, saying finish me....finish me....

So that is what I did, yesterday I put a zipper in the back piece. Joined it all together and sewed the binding onto the edges.

Today I hand sewed the binding and all finished.

Its now a cushion for my lounge chair where I love to sit and do my stitchery.

Due to the blue washable pen fading, I didn't worry about the top part of the stitchery. I am sure that would have made me undo what was already done...lol.

Also I put a binding around the edge and that fabric matches the dove's wing on the left.

The back I decided to add a zipper and I didn't want the zipper dead smack in the middle.

So this UFO is now a cushion and I am sure if I didn't join this group, it'd still be annoying me.

Very happy with the end result.

You're only limited by your imagination.

I've FINALLY given birth......

….to finish number 2!!!!  hehehe…..I bet that got you thinking!!!???
Well, I’ve been working hammer and tong to get this wall hanging ready to celebrate the birth of a friend’s baby in December and I didn’t want him to be celebrating his 21st before he received it!!!!

It’s “Once Upon a Time” by Natalie Lymer from Cinderberry Stitches and was featured in the Kid’s issue of Australian Homespun….Number 89 (Vol 11, no 10 if you’re interested).

The fabric I used was Zippedy Doo Dah by Sandy Gervais which made it very masculine I thought, and brought this little fella to life..

I didn’t follow the plan exactly but used all different threads to suit…some DMC, some Cosmo, some Mouline by Madiera and some Cottage Garden, and I love all of them

Hope Riley loves it too…..now off to sort out UFO number 3!!!!!
Sew many sugary hugs
Wendy  80)

Susan - at oh2sew - UFOs 1 2 & 3 DONE!!

My Christmas break is nearly over but I have done a lot of organising and a fair bit of sewing - there can never be enough but I am only human and need to sleep a bit.

I am happy to say I have 3 UFOs finsihed - so I will post now but update my list a bit later.
The first one - a black and gold bag that has been cut out for several months:  Pity the gold doesn't show up very well.

The second one - (started and finished in 3 days!!!!) a very colourful bag made for a friend of a friend who very kindly finished a cross stitch for me - I had done less than a quarter of it - started more than five years ago. This is in no way comparable to the work she put into my cross stitch - but she said she enjoyed doing things like that! (The pattern was Sew Cosy in case you have it.)

The third one is the Victorian Sewing Pouch from the Gift of the Month program for 2009. I had all the inside pockets made, just needed to put it all together.

Well that is 3 down and ???how many to go???

Hugs to all
Susan

Smallest First.

Like Sue I decided the best way to start working through my UFOs is to with the smallest.

This is a Rug Mug which was to be a Christmas gift last year.

Four years ago I make six mug blocks which were for place mats. Two years later I made four. So today I have finally made the last two but not without a hiccup.

I was happily stitching away when I realised I had sewn the two place mats together.

Grrrrrrrrrr!!  Don't you hate that!!!

If you would like to check out my UFO projects you can see them HERE

Salami Method....One Slice At A Time

I'm currently tackling my smallest WIPs. Yesterday this one was found lurking in a suspicious manner with two other WIPS. It was a homeless block from last year's Homespun BOM. It is now leading a productive life as a heat pad for the dining table.

Yesterday this embroidery had no fixed abode. It had been wandering for so long it was nameless. Now it leads a productive life as my e-book reader cover.

When I found this WIP yesterday it was an unstuffed lavender pouch. It experimented with life as a square quilt ruler pouch, but found its true calling as a travel needlecase.

Christmas Folders

This is quite a new UFO.  Last year through Among the Gum Trees,  Fee of Designs by Fee gave the pattern for Christmas folders.  I did the embroideries straight away but that was as far as it got as I worked on other Christmas projects. The time ran out and I didnt finish them.
But I am pleased to say they are now done - and took very little time to finish.  Thank you Fee for such a beautiful project and such well written instructions.  I love them.

I used left over strips for the cover of the second one.
Now I have 11 months to fill them with favourite recipes and Christmas goodies.  And it is a really early bird Christmas gift.
