Finish #3!!!

It was an easy finish (sort of) and I was determined to do it! So... a few days ago- I sewed and ripped and sewed. I like things perfect- so I couldn't LEAVE it! I think the problem stemmed from this being the FIRST EVER quilt I quilted myself AND the heavy batting AND the 74x74ish size... who would have thought that they could quilt a quilt of this size and weight on their short arm? Oh yeah-- ME!

I thought it ironic that this line was so appropriately named for MY quilt: Attic Treasures by Brannock and Patek. Sew~ this is MY attic treasure!

I started it 10 years (or so) ago and ONLY had to finish quilting in the ditch around the red border, quilt the black and get the binding on. Sew, that is what I did one day! All in all-- it was never as bad as I thought- but a few lessons learned and great victory won in this finish!!

Advent Calendar ready - just on time

Well, I don't know how long an UFO has to be left alone to officially be considered a UFO but I feel this panel was belonging to my long UFO list. I bought it at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham In August to make an Advent Calendar for my daughter - Miss Strawberry Shortcake. I was very good and pieced the top in September, thinking that I would have it finished well on time.
And then because Advent Calendar are not put in use until December, it was left on the side for later. So it was only last week-end that I digged it out from its plastic bag as it had become a WIP (work in progress) to start quilting it. I completed the free motion quilting over 2 days and finally on Wednesday (30 November!) I was able to prepare and stitch the binding during the day to finish hand sewing it before going to bed.
All is well in the end, the Advent Calendar was ready on Thursday morning and full of chocolates on Thursday night when Miss Strawberry Shortcake returned home. Although she can't recognise the numbers yet, she has fully understood the concept and work as a great team with her brother to find their daily chocolates in their respective calendars! This is now my third UFO finished this year, will I be able to squeeze another one before Christmas? Watch this space!

Finish Number 3

I'm a little slower than a lot of you, but I'm using my knee as an excuse!!!  ( and I'm sure I'll find many more of these when I go back to work!!! ) LOL
I'm still really pleased though that I have another UFO ticked off my list.....slowly but surely they say.....and it feels like such an accomplishment to watch them float out of the 'pile'!
I hope you like my 'Hydrangea Heaven' Table Runner, that I had first begun as a kit in late 2009, as much as I do.

You can see more photos of it on my blog -  http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com

Now, it's on to thinking about number 4!!!

4 Quilt Tops Done

Thank you to Wendy for inviting me to participate in this blog. I just wanted to show you all that this week, I have finished 4 baby quilts for little ones that survived the tornadoes of Alabama (United States) and their families did not.

Having this blog on UFO's helps me to complete my quilts and get rid of some of my stash as I feel accountable to all of you who are working so hard to complete your UFO's.

Simply put, this is a great support group for all of us quilters who say we never have the time to finish anything.

I have found a new home.

If anyone wants to stop by my home blog check out the Quilting Ranny at:

Another finish

This little wall hanging is actually the last two rows from the round robin I took part in in 2008. They looked so good together that I made them into a separate wall hanging and my husband wants it for his office .The first row was done by my friend Wilma and is called Resting by the River and the second row was done by Marilyn with the log cabin blocks and the fish hanging over the side of the canoe .I'm really happy with the results and it sure is nice to have it completed !

ANOTHER ONE DONE AND DUSTED

I got another one done.
There is a long story with this one, but I'll keep it short.

I bought this Batik Panel in Batam, an island in Indonesia,  while on holiday..... 14 YEARS AGO!
Then it got put away until I could quilt it.... and I lost it for 10 years somewhere in the house.

Two years ago I found it again... deep down in a linen cupboard and decided to finally make it into a wall hanging.
Well.... I started doing it 2 years ago... then lost it again to the UFO box... more projects came along that I JUST HAD to do!

You know how it is.... *smile*

Anyway, now that I am in this group of UFO ladies, I was motivated to finally finish it.... and I HAVE!

It is quite large.... I've made a 'sleeve' on the back so I can slip a full-size panel of thin plywood in to make sure it holds it's shape, I've done that with quite a few of my wallhangings and it works really well.

Now I just have to find somewhere to hang it, cos for sure it can't stay pinned to the curtains!  lol

ONWARD..... the next UFO awaits.

Susan - at oh2sew - UFOs 1 2 & 3 DONE!!

My Christmas break is nearly over but I have done a lot of organising and a fair bit of sewing - there can never be enough but I am only human and need to sleep a bit.

I am happy to say I have 3 UFOs finsihed - so I will post now but update my list a bit later.
The first one - a black and gold bag that has been cut out for several months:  Pity the gold doesn't show up very well.

The second one - (started and finished in 3 days!!!!) a very colourful bag made for a friend of a friend who very kindly finished a cross stitch for me - I had done less than a quarter of it - started more than five years ago. This is in no way comparable to the work she put into my cross stitch - but she said she enjoyed doing things like that! (The pattern was Sew Cosy in case you have it.)

The third one is the Victorian Sewing Pouch from the Gift of the Month program for 2009. I had all the inside pockets made, just needed to put it all together.

Well that is 3 down and ???how many to go???

Hugs to all
Susan

Salami Method....One Slice At A Time

I'm currently tackling my smallest WIPs. Yesterday this one was found lurking in a suspicious manner with two other WIPS. It was a homeless block from last year's Homespun BOM. It is now leading a productive life as a heat pad for the dining table.

Yesterday this embroidery had no fixed abode. It had been wandering for so long it was nameless. Now it leads a productive life as my e-book reader cover.

When I found this WIP yesterday it was an unstuffed lavender pouch. It experimented with life as a square quilt ruler pouch, but found its true calling as a travel needlecase.

Christmas Folders

This is quite a new UFO.  Last year through Among the Gum Trees,  Fee of Designs by Fee gave the pattern for Christmas folders.  I did the embroideries straight away but that was as far as it got as I worked on other Christmas projects. The time ran out and I didnt finish them.
But I am pleased to say they are now done - and took very little time to finish.  Thank you Fee for such a beautiful project and such well written instructions.  I love them.

I used left over strips for the cover of the second one.
Now I have 11 months to fill them with favourite recipes and Christmas goodies.  And it is a really early bird Christmas gift.
