Celebrate Friendship Wallhanging #17

I started this cute little wallhanging when I saw it in the Homespun (Issue 11.7) last year...  A very cute design by Natalie Ross

It's great to have it finished and posted it off to a new home....

No 1 UFO challenge

I have made a start on my looooooooooooooooong list of UFO challenges. Number one on the list, the final stitchery for 'The Wish Quilt'. This is a Bronwyn Hayes design. It was featured over a few issues of Homespun. I started this over 2 years ago. It is looking good so far.
I'm not sure how long it will take me to complete all of my UFOs but at least I have made a motivated effort to start and a place here to keep the spirits up and the motivation high.

Bye for now from Liz

Cushion Finished.

Back in October last year, I started the first block of the Breast of Friends quilt. I wasn't happy with my quality of embroidery, so I started a new block and this one hung on the wall.

It just stared at me and mocked me, saying finish me....finish me....

So that is what I did, yesterday I put a zipper in the back piece. Joined it all together and sewed the binding onto the edges.

Today I hand sewed the binding and all finished.

Its now a cushion for my lounge chair where I love to sit and do my stitchery.

Due to the blue washable pen fading, I didn't worry about the top part of the stitchery. I am sure that would have made me undo what was already done...lol.

Also I put a binding around the edge and that fabric matches the dove's wing on the left.

The back I decided to add a zipper and I didn't want the zipper dead smack in the middle.

So this UFO is now a cushion and I am sure if I didn't join this group, it'd still be annoying me.

Very happy with the end result.

You're only limited by your imagination.

I've FINALLY given birth......

….to finish number 2!!!!  hehehe…..I bet that got you thinking!!!???
Well, I’ve been working hammer and tong to get this wall hanging ready to celebrate the birth of a friend’s baby in December and I didn’t want him to be celebrating his 21st before he received it!!!!

It’s “Once Upon a Time” by Natalie Lymer from Cinderberry Stitches and was featured in the Kid’s issue of Australian Homespun….Number 89 (Vol 11, no 10 if you’re interested).

The fabric I used was Zippedy Doo Dah by Sandy Gervais which made it very masculine I thought, and brought this little fella to life..

I didn’t follow the plan exactly but used all different threads to suit…some DMC, some Cosmo, some Mouline by Madiera and some Cottage Garden, and I love all of them

Hope Riley loves it too…..now off to sort out UFO number 3!!!!!
Sew many sugary hugs

Salami Method....One Slice At A Time

I'm currently tackling my smallest WIPs. Yesterday this one was found lurking in a suspicious manner with two other WIPS. It was a homeless block from last year's Homespun BOM. It is now leading a productive life as a heat pad for the dining table.

Yesterday this embroidery had no fixed abode. It had been wandering for so long it was nameless. Now it leads a productive life as my e-book reader cover.

When I found this WIP yesterday it was an unstuffed lavender pouch. It experimented with life as a square quilt ruler pouch, but found its true calling as a travel needlecase.

A long awaited finish!

I started this block in April 09 when it was first released as part of a Homespun BOM. It's by Leanne's House and I just fell in love with it the moment I saw it. But I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it for a while and then when I finally decided I was going to make it into a cushion - I put it aside to start something else (I know... I wouldn't believe it either.. starting something new before finishing the other project?!?!).

I'm pleased to say that it's now FINISHED! And it's in my favourite Swell fabric too ... so it's even more impressive!

Well this is the first time I've ever posted to a blog, so let's hope it works!!
I did my first UFO listing at the end of 2008, unfortunately since then I've only completed 11 items from my original list. I tend to start too many new things in between, so this year is going to be different!!!
The first 5 projects I'd like to complete this year are:
  1. Lillibeth's Garden quilt (started in 2006 - a lovely BOM from Applewood Farm, #12 on my list)
  2. Civil War BOM (I subscribed to this last year from Fat Quarter Shop. I'm still yet to receive month 12, but am only up to sewing month 6. This is a present for my hubby so will get it finished for his birthday in November)
  3. Homespun BOM (last year's 'Life is a Celebration' project, I have about 4 months to go on this one as well)
  4. Bagalicious Club projects (signed up for this through Quilt Fabric Delights. I think I have about 2 left to come, but still have 2 I haven't made up yet)
  5. Christmas advent wallhanging (back to my original list #13, started this in 2008 so will definitely be done for Christmas 2011!)
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's UFO's and will hopefully be back soon (when I'll have to work out how to put a pic on here) with a completed item!!
