Christmas table runner

My latest finish is a Christmas Table runner.  This was another Sewing Club project which didnt get finished -  it seems that the Christmas projects started at Sewing Club always end up in the UFO pile.  Must be something to do with the busyness of that time of year.  This one I think was started 4 years ago.  The top was finished, so it needed to be quilted and bound.

5th finish for 2013

I am so determined to get at least one UFO finished each month this year that I have tried to come up with a bit of a plan to get things done. Firstly the big UFO to be finished this year WILL be Val Laird's "Consider the Lilies" wall hanging. All the blocks were made up at the beginning of last year with one blocks hand sewing finished and the second started by the end of the year. Well I have now completed the second blocks embroidery and will commence on the third shortly. Stayed tuned.......

I love table runners and I have several table runners in various stages of completeness in little baggies these are the next thing to mark off the list. So with that in mind a grabbed on bag the other day which had enough in it for two long table runners (can't remember why). This is the first of those table runners  using a quilt as you go method, fabric is basic Grey's "Sultry" by Moda (mmmmm love Basic Grey) jelly Roll (left over from teapot cosies which are still to be completed..

The rest of the fabric in that bag I have now been sewn together Jelly roll race style,I will add vertical borders to make it wide enough then quilt and bind it and another table runner/UFO will be done.

But first I will complete 2 more UFO hand towels which have now been earmarked as a personal swap.

After that I have another table runner, that I have designed myself, to complete using an Authentic by Sweetwater charm pack.

Then I will only have one more table runner to complete (made with caring hearts) and that UFO box will be done and dusted for this year.  There are only 4 more boxes to work my way through (bags, cushions, kitchen projects, completed blocks)  as well as a few small baskets of UFO's that haven't been sorted yet and 5 quilt tops still to be quilted.

That's do-able isn't it.........

18th Finish

I purchased this kit over a year ago when attending a Kansas Troubles Club.  I loved the sunflowers and the little button detail and cut out the fabric and....  Well I signed up for a Pay it Forward and I decided this would be perfect!  I love the pattern and and thought it would be great to send to Portugal...Sunflowers - so 'Midwest'.  The sewing and quilting went well.  The teeny tiny little buttons were hard to sew in a circle but I was happy with the result.

This week I hope to catch up reading all the 'Sew Its Finished' posts.

August Finish

I think I could get used to this - finishing things BEFORE their corresponding holiday...
... a Halloween table runner finished before Halloween!

Back in the mid-late 90's, I participated in a bunch of charm and block swaps through an internet quilting list. While trying to decide what to conquer next, some Halloween 9-patches and charms from those exchanges caught my eye. I had been wanting to make a disappearing 9-patch for some time, so decided the time was right. I thought I might even get it done early since the sun (and my boys) are going to bed earlier these days. Then strep throat ran through the family and my gal bladder and I decided to part ways, leaving me less than a week for my 'early' project. Fortunately, my partner-in-crime was willing to set my sewing machine up for me several nights in a row, and I'm here to cheer the end of another month!

This project didn't make much of a dent in my block/charm stash, but it made 3 little boys more excited about the end of summer. It also broke up a stressful morning. Two of the three went to their first day of kindergarten today, which they've been worrying about for several weeks. I finished the runner last night, so left it on the table to surprise them for breakfast this morning. It was a great diversion - giving them something other than school to talk and think about. I love when timing works out so well!

Finish #11

Another project finished - Yeah!!!  This tablemat started out as a challenge in March of 2011 for Playing with Blocks Club.  I needed to make something using the green fabric provided and the Stack and Whack method.  I completed the top by the next month but I finally quilted and bound the table topper this last weekend.

A Mystery Finish

Last year our Mystery Club presented us with a challenge to use the "Ugly" fabric we exchanged.  As you can see I ended up with this Very Bright Yellow and Black stripe yard of fabric.  I really didn't like the fabric but after adding black it didn't look so bad.

I completed the top and tossed it with other UFO's.  This month I quilted and bound it....Sew It's Finished #5.  Now I can start a new project....since I finished an old one.

Number 2 Finish

Yahooooooooo another finish. My hearts table runner is complete. I have quilted in some hearts free motion style in 2 different sizes and quilted in the ditch around the stitcheries.

The Back

I have used, looks like a polyester wadding and it has really puffed the quilting up and the stitcheries. Usually I use a cotton wadding and when I compare the 2 different types the quilting is not as noticeable on the cotton. I guess it depends on the look you are after. I think the cotton wadding can make a quilt quite stiff if it has a lot of quilting where the poly would be more fluffy.
At present I am about getting my projects finished and using up what I have in my stash so I will use what wadding I have in my stash for now. Very happy with the finished project and another UFO crossed off my very long list. The stitcheries were completed in February last year. Took me another year to get it pieced together and quilted. This is a newer UFO in my huge pile. Now off and onto the next UFO.

Have fun cre8ting where ever you are

Bye for now ~ from Liz A

One finish for January

I guess the time stamp on my post will be 1st February but it still 31st January for just under 3 hours so I can report my first finish for the year and the month but my 6th finish since I joined the group last year! I managed to put the last stitch on the binding of one UFO tonight. I finished a candle mat that I started in November 2010. This was for a swap and with the instructions given, we were making two at a time. Of course I finished the first one then and there to send it in time for the swap. But the second one was half pieced and languishing in a plastic bag until last month. I finished piecing the top in December and was hopeful it would be all finished by year end.
But that was before Baby Daughter made her entrance into the world on Christmas Day! Anyway, it is now finished and I will be able to give it away as a birthday present later this year.

3 more finishes - woohooooo

2nd finish for this year is this bag for my daughter, Haylee. The bag is made from 8 caring hearts that Our craft forum girls nominated Haylee for when she went to Kenya in 2008 on a mission awareness trip. She was away on the weeke end & my plan was to have it ready when she got back, I didn't quite make that, so I finished it while she was at Church and surprised her when she got home. She had no idea and had even forgotten about the hearts.

3rd finish is the Fig & plum tablerunner. I just had to finish the binding on this one. Finished it late last night.

Fourth finish were these fibre bookmarks that I sell at work. I just had to finsh the edges, stamp the back and put a tassle on each one. I do have more book marks in varying stages of completion but these are all we need for now.

First Finish for 2012

Happy new year to all. This is my first UFO finish for 2012 & I hope that this year I will get through the other 19 UFO's on my list. I joined this site last year but as my sewing room was so disorganised I was never able to get in and get to any project. This year that changes. I am in the process of sorting out my sewing room to make it a place that encourages me to go in & sew. I still have a way to go but I am getting there.

What I have found is a basket of small items in various stages on progress. So I am starting in there & am starting with the items with the least amount of work to finish, I had two table runners that just needed binding, so I finished this table runner at 11.15 last night. It was started 2 years ago, the plan was for it to go into the birthday box. The other table runner has a self binding so the plan is to start the hand sewing tonight, it's a much larger runner that the purple "Violetta" runner so is likely to take me two night to finish. but finish it I will and hope to have a piccy to post on Thursday or Friday.

I am thinking of making one of these runners a giveaway on my blog (the other runner is from the "Fig & plum" range).

Happy UFO'ing

Angels Story Table Runner

Well here it is Finish #3 for me for this challenge, this is the table runner from An Angels Story by Anni Downs.  This wasn't on my original Sew Its Finished list, only because I couldn't find it back at the start of the year to add it to my list!  But now it's found and finally quilted and finished after lurking in a drawer for a couple of years.

There have been some lovely finishes here lately ladies, thanks for the inspiration ............. catch you later ...............

Finish Number 3

I'm a little slower than a lot of you, but I'm using my knee as an excuse!!!  ( and I'm sure I'll find many more of these when I go back to work!!! ) LOL
I'm still really pleased though that I have another UFO ticked off my list.....slowly but surely they say.....and it feels like such an accomplishment to watch them float out of the 'pile'!
I hope you like my 'Hydrangea Heaven' Table Runner, that I had first begun as a kit in late 2009, as much as I do.

You can see more photos of it on my blog -  http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com

Now, it's on to thinking about number 4!!!

Finish # 2

Hi there, I'm very happy to share my second Sew It's Finished finish.  I finally got this little runner quilted and bound yesterday.  It is Skinny Verna made in the beautiful Martinque fabric by 3 Sisters.  I love this fabric, and am thrilled to have actually finished something with it.

I have a very long list of WIP's to tackle, but it still feels good to cross one off!

Thanks for looking.....happy stitching........Nicky

Number 3 finish…I am numbering them now

This means I am on a roll…Well a small roll as this is number 3 finish and there are many more UFO’s to do.
I haven't added them up as I am not really brave enough to do that! Tee Hee!
Table Charm Squares Runner
This is my table runner I did from the Charm Squares BOM from the Craft Forum that had a monthly swap. We swapped blocks and then when we had all the blocks we could do what ever we wanted to do with them and I made a table runner.
I was very good and even did machine quilting on it. I have a lot of practice to do that properly yet. Maybe if I had a lovely frame and computerised machine I would do much better….Dream on!! lol
I am enjoying seeing everyones finishes very much. Well done everyone and there are a lot of lovely projects too. Oh well….its on to number 4!
hugs to all…….Vicki
