Fairies and a Snowman

Back in September I completed my 4th 'Sew Its Finished' finish, when after about 6 years I completed this project for my daughters 10th birthday.  It was supposed to be a bolster cushion but eventually morphed into a covered 8" x 12" canvas.  The stitchery is from Natalie Birds Fairyland book.

My fifth finish is this Lizzie Kate 2010 Snowman that I sent as part of a Christmas exchange this year.  It's only a small finish, but I'm happy to count anything!!

I hope everyone is making great progress on their UFO's, I have another three that are very close and SHOULD be done by the end of the year........ good luck to everyone to get lots more done before the 31st!!

Happy stitching everyone......... Nicky x

A finish for July

I’ve been battling it out on my sewing machine this week, working on one of my long-standing UFO’s that I just kept postponing for fear of messing up.  (do you do that too….or is it just a ‘me’ thing???)

Finally, finally, finally……this li’l baby has made it past the finish line…….

014 (Medium)

It’s my Market Baguette Bag…a Cinderberry Stitches design by Natalie Lymer and I just love it!   I made a couple of modifications…..magnetic clasps instead of the ties, as I know how frustrated I would become if I had to tie and untie them every time I went into my bag….and they work a treat!

And I also stitched some vertical ‘fold’ lines into the sides, so they folded inwards rather than gaped out as I carried it around.

these little birdies are just so ‘tweet’!!!!!

It’s now my ‘go to’ bag when I hit the shops…..and I continue to ask myself…….why oh why did it take me soooo long to finish it!?!

Off to look for more of those ‘scary’ UFOs to get to the finish line!!!  How about you?????

Sugary hugs :O)

Made It!

I was beginning to think that the wool was disappearing into some sort of knitting black hole. I kept knitting and it just wasn't growing but I've finally finished with a couple of days to spare :)

I have a scarf for every day of the week now and this one is so snuggly soft.

I do have a finish but no photo yet...

I found a tin with two half done stitchery kits in it. I have been trying to remember how long they have been there and I guess it is about 7 - 8 years. So I finished one stitchery and have made it into a wallhanging. At least that is what the design is for.... I think though that it might become a little table topper or mug rug. It is an early Anni Downs pattern and still cute. It might be small but it is finished !
My camera battery is flat and it is too dark for a photo with my phone so hopefully I will be able to edit this post in the morning and add a photo.

One floor cushion

It is only early May but I have (already) finished a UFO! I found this pieced top early in February this year. I had pieced it between 9pm and midnight one night of late November or early December 2007 at my LQS mystery night. This was our warm project. The aim was speed over accuracy (cutting several layers at once and fast chain piecing) and it is obvious that accuracy wasn't the focus as points don't always match or are cut off.
Because of the size of my pieced top, it would have made a wall-hanging. But I didn't like the idea of hanging a (badly) pieced quilt on the wall for everyone to look at so I decided to turn it into a floor cushion. I ripped off one row of the top to have a square piece. I added a thin red and a thin black border before quilting my top. I decided to play with the quilting a little and went for a base of squares with echo quilting at different width.

I like that this is now finished and will be useful! And I quite like how it turned out in the end, even if it isn't always well done. The kids love it and have already enjoyed sitting on it, jumping on it, walking on it.... it doesn't bother them that the piecing is not perfect obviously!

5th Finish... another little quilt

On Friday, I finished sewing the binding on quilt #4 for the year - April's finish. This quilt was started by my mom for my youngest nephew. I think it was the first time she used a rotary cutter to cut out the pieces. I don't remember why it came to me to be finished, and mom can't remember either - it's been too long! The nephew in question is now 16... which pretty much says it all!
I'm not sure yet what I'll do with this one as it's a bit small for my boys. It may go into a tub to await the arrival of the next baby in the family... My oldest nephew is getting married in August, so it may not be long of a wait!

April finish

This month I pulled out some orphan stained glass blocks I made I cant remember when.  But after  talking to my daughter about them we think it must be more than 8 years, as she was still living at home and she had said she would like them when they were finished.  So better late than never, and she would still like them.  I decided the best thing was to make cushions, and she wants to put them on her bed.

I remember that I was trying different methods of doing the applique on these ones.  One was done with no vliesofix, one with vliesofix, and the third one I dont remember what I did differently.
Now to choose the next UFO to work on.

A Mystery Finish

Last year our Mystery Club presented us with a challenge to use the "Ugly" fabric we exchanged.  As you can see I ended up with this Very Bright Yellow and Black stripe yard of fabric.  I really didn't like the fabric but after adding black it didn't look so bad.

I completed the top and tossed it with other UFO's.  This month I quilted and bound it....Sew It's Finished #5.  Now I can start a new project....since I finished an old one.

Another two finishes

last week i finished these 3 hand towels that have been half made for around 2 years. The toppers were made just needed to have the towels added. These make my 5th finish.

My 6th finish and the biggest so far is my Iowa Girl tablecloth that I started over 5 years ago. The top was completed in the year it was started but I put it aside as I could not afford to have it professionally quilted & I knew it needed more than ditch quilting or the very poor stippling I have since tried. So this year I have joined SewCalGals FMQ challenge to help me get my confidence up with quilting. January's tut was free flowing flowers. Mine are all over the place and not very even but i had a go and it got another UFO happening. I finished the binding last night while watching a movie with my daughter.

Some more finishes

Hello everyone,

I've finished a couple of more items, both were started last year:

A felt flower that is also..

a sewing kit. Everything is hand stitched.
This is something I started because I had joined a quilt guild that meets to sew every other week. I can't go right now because I watch my grandson. Hope to start back this summer.

This is pockets that I made from log cabin blocks.

This is a pin cushion that has a bit of storage.

This is a small ironing pad that I made from an old ironing board cover.

I also made a matching mat for my cup.
I have more pictures on my blog if you want to see them. You can go here.

This makes 5 finishes for January so far and I have another couple that I want to work on.
