Wow I finally stitched something
Wednesday, May 1, 2013
My oh my, I have an April finish!!!!!
…and the worst thing is, I finished it a couple of weeks ago, and I just haven’t gotten around to posting about it!!!
This is a mystery quilt I made in an online forum from the Quilt Pattern Magazine, which I subscribe to….it’s A Winter Mystery Quilt, but even living in the tropical north of Australia, my mind reads ‘Christmas”……subliminal brainwashing perhaps????
Well, I started this last year with the intent on having it done for Christmas, but………………. well, you know the rest? It got to the part where you had to use the blocks to design your own pattern and well…….I just kept those little bitty blocks in their crisp plastic packets didn’t I????
I finally got up the nerve to tackle the designing process and here is the result….
Finally I get to show you a finish of my own!

12 Little Finishes (finishes 5 - 16)
I started these tree ornaments last year but never got past cutting them out. Tonight...just a few short minutes ago...I finished these 12 trees. I had a hard time finding stars for on top that were large enough but I put a button underneath to make them look larger. I'll still look for larger stars for the next dozen or so I make but it feels great to finish these.

A Christmas Finish
I started this last year and unfortunately with the end of the year getting so busy I never got around to finish it for Chrissy 2012. So now after backing quilting, binding and adding some suffolk puffs & ribbon, I'm pleased to say it is complete.
Sorry about the lighting in the pic, it's very overcast here today.

It is becoming to look a lot like Christmas!
Although we put up our tree last week-end... before the tree skirt was finished, I am proud to say that it is now finished and around the tree, I did the last stitch on the binding last night.
I made my skirt using blocks I made and received from the Christmas Scrappy Block Swap I took part in in August 2009! I know that was a looooong time ago... My blocks have been patiently waiting to be used since then. I only got them out about a week or two ago and decided that this was the year I was going to get them into a quilt, they were not going to wait yet another year until next Christmas.
This one is a real UFO when you think the blocks were pieced about 30 months ago. This is my 4th finish this year (and second in about 2 weeks) and I am hoping to have another one to report very shortly, only needs the binding now... Watch this space!

Advent Calendar ready - just on time
And then because Advent Calendar are not put in use until December, it was left on the side for later. So it was only last week-end that I digged it out from its plastic bag as it had become a WIP (work in progress) to start quilting it. I completed the free motion quilting over 2 days and finally on Wednesday (30 November!) I was able to prepare and stitch the binding during the day to finish hand sewing it before going to bed.
All is well in the end, the Advent Calendar was ready on Thursday morning and full of chocolates on Thursday night when Miss Strawberry Shortcake returned home. Although she can't recognise the numbers yet, she has fully understood the concept and work as a great team with her brother to find their daily chocolates in their respective calendars! This is now my third UFO finished this year, will I be able to squeeze another one before Christmas? Watch this space!

It wasn't even on my list; forgot about it..a Christmas table runner was in a corner of my sewing room; hiding.lol......setting up a quilt for a lady today also. It wasn't on my list either; she just brought it to me yesterday.....perfect timing,eh!!
Here is the runner........I quilted it on the machine...
keeps me practicing some stippling....which I am not
great at either, but I find it fun for a change.....

Instant Gratificiation
One of the things I enjoy over the festive season is cross stitching a Christmas design. If it doesn't get finished before Christmas, it tends to sit for months before I do anything with it. I was beginning to waver on my resolution to work on my WIPs for the next few weeks, so decided a bit of operant conditioning (ie a bit of instant gratification finishing) was in order. I checked my WIPs for something small. I made A Star On Top by Blue Ribbon Designs into a needle case this afternoon. A first step towards forming a new finishing habit!
The rest of my list for 2011 is:
A Gardener’s Journal.
Halloween needlecase.
Holiday Morning Quilt.
Lap quilt (green bricks).
Orphan blocks (various).
Chinese coin purse tablecloth.
Sing, Choir Of Angels applique wall hanging.
Sing, Choir of Dark Angels applique wall hanging.
Skinny table runner.
It's not in any particular order, as I have the attention span of a lobotomised amoeba. I do have my eye on the tablecloth next, closely followed by the green lap quilt. A Gardener's Journal I intend to chip away at over the year.
