The tally takes us to a total of 443 finishes, leaving us with 57 to achieve our goal….just 29 per month…….

YES WE CAN!!!!  Go on…..reach for the stars!!!!

Honestly, I’m tickled pink!  But why does it always take so long to get around to them??? (UFO’s I mean!)

Hope you had a finish over the weekend too!

My oh my, I have an April finish!!!!!

…and the worst thing is, I finished it a couple of weeks ago, and I just haven’t gotten around to posting about it!!!

This is a mystery quilt I made in an online forum from the Quilt Pattern Magazine, which I subscribe to….it’s A Winter Mystery Quilt, but even living in the tropical north of Australia, my mind reads ‘Christmas”……subliminal brainwashing perhaps????

Well, I started this last year with the intent on having it done for Christmas, but……………….  well, you know the rest?   It got to the part where you had to use the blocks to design your own pattern and well…….I just kept those little bitty blocks in their crisp plastic packets didn’t I????

I finally got up the nerve to tackle the designing process and here is the result….

Finally I get to show you a finish of my own!

Airing my dirty laundry……eek!!!!!!

Ok girls…..you thought you had it bad!!!!!
I’ve just gone through all (that I can find!!) of my UFO’s and K.A.R.T.S (Kitted and ready to start) from pre-2013…….  and myyyyyyyy goodness….didn’t some surprises lay in wait…..Now I’m absolutely positive they breed behind closed doors!!!!!
I can’t possibly list them all here but  you can see my list of UFO's HERE and my K.A.R.T.S. list HERE
Needless to say this summary will have your heart racing, as it did mine……..
Are you ready????
OK……
I’m game if you are…….
Here goes…….
I have twenty-eight UFO’s in waiting
AND…..
Wait for it……
fifty-nine K'.A.R.T.S. I’ve had since before New Years Day 2013!!!!
I  TOLD  you they breed!!!!
That makes 87 unfinished projects laying in waiting in my house alone!  Make you feel better!!!???  Now you know why Dawn and I were keen to start this blog together……now you’ve really got your work cut out for you…..you have to get me off my butt and keep me on task to get rid of at least SOME of these…..because if not, by 2014 they will have bred to well over 100!!! aaaaaaaaargh!
Hope that’s made you’re weekend…..I’m off to stitch!

Last month’s gift block

Hi all,

how are you going with your ufo-busting this month???

I’ve got one in the fire and hopefully will be finished by next Thursday….yep, that’s right, NEXT THURSDAY is the last day of May so get those needles working overtime, find yourself a smallish finish to get done (if you haven’t started yet) and posted on the blog to qualify for your free block of the month!

Remember a ufo is one you’ve started BEFORE the 31 Dec 2011 !

I just thought I’d show you last month’s freebie stitched out…..

043 (Medium)

This is another of Dawn’s beautiful designs…..two poppies symbolising Anzac Day on April 25th…..such an important day in Australia and New Zealand, and the Cross behind them symbolising Easter……both representing how much has been given so that we might live.

You’ll notice I varied the stitching as per Dawn’s instructions…..(I do like to be different!!!! LOL)  I added satin stitch to the poppy pods, backstitched the cross and then echoed it with running stitch in gold thread….don’t know if you can see that in the photo but perhaps if you click on it it might show up better?!

This month will be my design month and it’s all ready to go….something special for May…..I wonder if you can guess what it will be?????

Our computers are all going well (touch wood!) so we’ll have no delays in getting them to you this month!

So keep working on reducing those piles …. (of ufo’s, that is!)

A Round Tuit

This one’s been a long time coming…..

made from friendship blocks that were swapped in our guild a couple of years ago…

sitting there waiting, waiting, waiting….

for me to get around to it……

and the circular pattern says it all….

here’s my March Finish….

‘A Round Tuit’

The blocks were made….just putting them together, sandwiching, quilting and binding….

Now, that wasn’t so hard, after all!!!!

Don’t know why it took me soooo long!

EXTRA, EXTRA…..!!!!

Hi girls……

just to let you know, for those of you that had a finish last month and received your free block pattern, there was a slight error in it.  Poor Miss Dawn was tearing her hair out running around hell- west and crooked trying to organise herself for her quilty trip/retreat  to Tassie and, after sending the pattern to you all, we discovered the sizing of the designs on the pattern sheets was wrong.    Nobody has emailed yet so I’m guessing no one has tried doing it yet  (which is a good thing….get onto those ufos !!! LOL)

If you did receive your free pattern, just email me and I will forward you the correct pattern sheet for you to add to the design.

Now I know a few of you are panicking that you are not able to finish your ufo’s in time each month….. and with 56 of us not finishing any of our ufo’s yet this year…..

I thought a couple of organisational hints might help…….

I love Cath’s idea of allocating 12 months to do 12 finishes at most….anything else is a bonus!   So……don’t expect to get ALL of your ufo’s done in one year….. as my boss used to say,

“You can’t eat an elephant in one bite!”

elephant sneaking

I like to break this idea down even further……. I created a sort of year overview planner  on an A3 sheet and jotted in things in each month that would take my time like birthdays, weddings, births,  (where I'd have to make things) or times I'm away (perhaps on holiday), and then fitted in ufo's to suit the space I had available......helped sort things out in my head a little better when I'd juggled it around on paper a bit first.    It’s not foolproof as there’s always things that crop up unexpectedly (like sickness and flu), but with a disorganised brain like mine, it helps!

If you think this idea might work for you, you can download a copy of my yearly overview planner here….

My boss also told me……

“if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”!!!!

There’s still 24 days to go in March…..what will be your finished UFO this month???

A shattered finish…..

My weekend was spent watching videos whilst it rained outside and stitching on the binding to finish my “Pretty in Pink” Shattered Tiles Quilt.   It was started in March, 2010 at a workshop which you can read more about here and here.

And finally, here she is…Pretty in Pink…..
