I love my Grandma Quilt

This is my 7th finish this year. I only finished 5 UFOs last year so I have already passed that. I'm hoping to at least triple last year's finishes. It's nice to see the UFO bin emptying. I have a stack of unfinished projects on the shelves of one of my bookcases and I also have a clear tub with projects that need  finishing. The ones I want to work on first are stored in the clear tub. When that empties I add more.

This came to me in pieces a year or so ago. One of my neighbors was making this for a family member who was having a little girl. She never finished it so she just went out and bought a blanket for the new baby and passed her UFO along to me.  All the blocks were cut out and the top was around half way sewn together. Her plan was to use a soft pink minky backing and a matching pink store bought satin binding. I finished the top and decided to do some hand quilting in some of the squares . I used embroidery floss and stitched hearts into the I love Grandma squares. I also did some straight line machine stitching in the ditch across the rows as back up. Since the embroidered hearts go out near the edge I couldn't use the satin binding. I couldn't find the right color pink fabric in my stash for the binding so it sat for the past month or so. When I woke up yesterday I remembered I had a box of fabric in my closet that had some pink fabric in it and luckily it matched.

I haven't used minky before but it wasn't too bad. I love how soft it feels but I probably won't use it as a backing again for awhile. I think it would make wonderful stuffed friends though.  The blankie still needs to go through the wash to remove the marking pen but I am waiting until I finish another pink UFO I am working on.  I didn't use any batting for this quilt.

I have started a hope chest for when our kids eventually marry and have children. This quilt will be added to the hope chest after it is washed.

Two Little Finishes, #6 and #7

These two baby/children's hats were started 4 - 5 years ago.  All I had left to do was sew the seams (my least favorite part) and make pom poms.  They're so cute that I'd like to make more but can't find the pattern!
I did a lot of work on two unfinished quilts this month..........maybe I'll have one ready for April.  It's still Saturday here (5:45pm) so I just made the March finish!  YEAH!

Mystery UFO finished

I finished one UFO yesterday
but I can't show a picture as yet because I need to send it to the recipient first, hence the name for now of Mystery UFO.

Of course I am happy and proud to have finish one UFO of my list. But I am also ashamed it has taken me so long because this was a friendship project. I gathered the blocks in the Spring last year with a view of assembling and finishing the quilt to send it off in the summer. But life got in the way, I spent most of the summer with no energy, resting most of the time and being signed off work. Then I went back to work in September and I must admit I did pick that project first because I had so much to catch up with. So I only picked the blocks again towards the end of last year with the idea of finally making the quilt. I managed to piece the top before Baby Daughter was born but didn't go any further so, of course, it had been waiting since. Finally earlier this month, I picked it up again to add the border, quilt the top and this last week add the binding. The quilt is now finish and ready to fly!

finish no 7

I made another bag. Finish no 7.

I bought this pattern almost two years ago. It's from a norwegian designer AnnaKa. After I bought the fabric it took me one year to finish it. The pattern is written in Norwegian, so I was a little afraid to make it. But the pattern was very easy to follow. So It was a piece of cake to finish the bag.

My Mom made the Matroesjka on her embriodery- sewingmachine.

I know this is not

I know this is not sewing BUT it was definitely a real UFO.  On the May 1st 2010 I did a post on how I only had to solder and putty my window.
Finally yesterday I have achieved it and the window is done. Just over a year later.

This is a finish I am very pleased with. You can read more on my blog.
