A Round Tuit

This one’s been a long time coming…..

made from friendship blocks that were swapped in our guild a couple of years ago…

sitting there waiting, waiting, waiting….

for me to get around to it……

and the circular pattern says it all….

here’s my March Finish….

The blocks were made….just putting them together, sandwiching, quilting and binding….

Now, that wasn’t so hard, after all!!!!

Don’t know why it took me soooo long!

March finishes!!!

We had another great month this month with 46 finishes for the month of March….. congratulations to everyone……it’s such a buzz seeing all of your work and imagining how your piles of ufo’s must be shrinking (only wish my waistline would do the same!!!! LOL)
That takes our total up to 166 finishes for the year to date…we’re going to blow last year’s finishes out of the water the way we’re going!What a fantastic effort!!!! 
In fact, if we keep on going, we’ll EASILY surpass 500 finishes for the year…now that’s an achievement to be proud of….and it’s only because of all the encouragement you girl’s give each other!
Here is a picture of the 3rd block our finishers have received …

…always a reward at the end of the rainbow, so they say, and I’m not one to argue….and you don’t even have to be Irish!

 A crochet basket

I so enjoy seeing what everyone been up to. It gives me more ideas than I have time.
I hope to have a couple of my quilts back from the quilters so I can show something big.

My finishes for February & March

Here is a couple of finishes...Very old finishes.

I actually finished this one the end of February.

It's a white canvas apron I bought about 8 years ago and some fabric I bought to "fancy" it up about 5 years ago. My kitchen is apples so this will look great hanging in my kitchen.

A small Christmas tree skirt.

I bought this "kit" a long, long time ago and found it while going through my fabric. All the pieces were cut out and all it needed was to be cut out, stuffed pieces. There is a tree too but I haven't gotten it stuffed yet. The only thing I completed (with machine embroidery stitches) was the skirt. I think it turned out cute. I'm going to finish the tree soon and will show you.

Still plugging away but also dealing with health issues.

Two Little Finishes, #6 and #7

These two baby/children's hats were started 4 - 5 years ago.  All I had left to do was sew the seams (my least favorite part) and make pom poms.  They're so cute that I'd like to make more but can't find the pattern!
I did a lot of work on two unfinished quilts this month..........maybe I'll have one ready for April.  It's still Saturday here (5:45pm) so I just made the March finish!  YEAH!

The Loon is Done

 I made it just under the wire again (it's only 5 pm, March 31 here in Winnipeg). This quilt is part of a challenge to raise money for the Humane Society. A pack of 3 fabrics were given to each participant and you were required to use 2 of the 3 fabrics, plus as many others as you want, to make a quilt under the theme "Animals, Animals". The green reeds and royal blue fabric used for for the ripples were the challenge fabrics. The total of 60 quilts will be auctioned off by silent bid at our quilt show. I figured there would be a ton of puppy dog and kitty cat quilts so wanted to make something that might appeal to the cottage goers.  I used an old book I have on loons for reference and sketched my own design. Now I'm off to see what everyone else did this month!

Just before the deadline

I finished one cushion before dinner tonight (Saturday 31st, although I think my post will be published on 1 April Australian time). I have been meaning to do it all month and only picked it up this afternoon. Nothing better than a deadline to get things done!
Anyway I started this cushion I think in January 2010. I had done the middle and the first round of logs (red ones) and I had all the fabric cut. When I picked it up again today, I couldn't remember how to do it properly so after the fourth attempt at adding the first block log I finally got it right!

I love the fabrics I used for the cushion but I didn't really like the method to make it. It is a "stitch and flip" method where you prepared your quilted pieces and sew them together in a way that leaves no raw edge on the top or backing so it is neat and finished once it's pieced. And although I didn't enjoy the method to make the cushion, I really like how it turned out. It looks lovely finished on the sofa in the living room, so much better than in pieces in a plastic bag under my sewing table!
